For a long time, I have had a passion for justice. The idea that one person may be viewed differently from another simply because of who they are has always made me upset. The idea that one person may not be treated fairly or humanely because of who they are is even worse. It is because of this pursuit of justice, fairness, and equality, that I want to attain a law degree. I aspire to this goal not because it is easy, but because its rewards can benefit society as a whole. It is as a lawyer that I can represent families like those that I grew up around, who were not always treated fairly, and I can fight for them to have, as the Fourteenth Amendment guarantees, equal protection under the law.
It is from this fight for justice that I have had the privilege of helping people throughout my high school career. Bringing people together has been fundamental in ensuring that every voice is heard. As our school's chapter of FBLA's President, I have started holding chapter meetings twice a week. In these meetings, we discuss future events and how we can all be prepared for these events. But also in these meetings, I have had the opportunity of helping members of our growing chapter. For example, our team competing in graphic design has come to me many times in order to ensure that their work seemed high quality, and I have been happy to help them however I can every time that they have asked. Even more so, my role as chapter president means that I have a higher degree of information presented to me from our state chapter. This means that when my peers may be struggling to decide on what events to do, or how to do an event that they have chosen, I am there with many of the answers for them.
Even more than all of these examples are the fundamental characteristics that I try to embody. I try to represent values of honesty, integrity, hard work, and determination in everything that I do. I like to present myself as someone that can be available, whether that is for specific information or if folks just need a shoulder to cry on. As an oldest sibling, I have learned that patience can be a great unifier: Just being there for someone, just showing up and listening to their concerns, can mean a lot to people. It is my hope that I have had a positive impact on my community, and just knowing that I have had an impact on just one person means so much.
