Russia's war in Ukraine has had a profound impact on me personally, even though I am far from the conflict zone. The constant stream of news and images from the war has been deeply distressing, creating a sense of helplessness and sadness. It's hard not to be affected when seeing the suffering of innocent people and the destruction of communities. Emotionally, the war has made me more anxious about the state of the world. The realization that such conflicts can arise and escalate so quickly has made me more aware of global instability and the fragility of peace. This awareness has sometimes led to feelings of unease and uncertainty about the future, not just for those directly involved, but for everyone. Furthermore, the war has made me more appreciative of the stability and safety in my own life. It has underscored the importance of supporting humanitarian efforts and being more engaged in global issues. I've found myself more inclined to donate to relief organizations and participate in discussions about how to help those affected by the conflict. This personal impact has made me more empathetic and motivated to contribute to positive change, even in small ways. Achieving my educational goals will empower me to overcome any hardships resulting from the war for myself, my family, my community, and my country by providing a multifaceted foundation of knowledge, skills, and resilience. For myself, education is a powerful tool that equips me with critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and specialized knowledge. While I haven't experienced this personally, I can imagine that having a parent incarcerated would be incredibly challenging. It might bring feelings of loneliness, sadness, and even anger. The absence of a parent could lead to a lack of support and guidance, making everyday life and school more difficult. There could also be a social stigma, making it hard to talk about or find understanding from others. Overall, it would likely be a tough experience, impacting emotional well-being and shaping one's perspective on family and trust. I can imagine a plan would involve focusing on education and staying connected with positive influences. Seeking support from mentors and community programs can provide guidance and encouragement. Learning from the loved one's experiences, understanding the consequences, and making conscious choices to stay on a positive path are crucial. Building a strong support network and setting clear, achievable goals can help avoid similar circumstances. It's about staying resilient, making smart decisions, and always striving for a better future, despite the challenges faced. Coping with a parent's incarceration is an incredibly challenging experience, and self-care becomes essential in navigating the emotional and psychological turmoil that accompanies it. Establishing a robust self-care routine can provide the necessary support and resilience to face the difficulties head-on. One of the most crucial aspects of self-care is seeking emotional support. Talking to friends, family members, or a counselor can offer a safe space to express feelings and receive comfort. Sharing the burden with others can alleviate the sense of isolation and help in processing complex emotions. Additionally, joining support groups specifically for individuals with incarcerated loved ones can provide a sense of community and understanding. Connecting with others who are going through similar experiences can be immensely comforting and validating. Journaling is another powerful self-care tool. Writing down thoughts and feelings allows for self-reflection and helps in understanding and managing emotions. It serves as an outlet to release pent-up emotions and gain clarity on the situation. Alongside journaling, engaging in creative outlets like drawing, painting, or music can be therapeutic. These activities provide a means to channel emotions constructively and find moments of joy amidst the turmoil. Physical activity is also vital for emotional well-being. Regular exercise, whether it's sports, yoga, or even daily walks, can significantly reduce stress and improve overall mood. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood lifters. Coupled with physical activity, mindfulness and meditation practices can help in staying present and reducing anxiety. Techniques like deep breathing exercises can be calming and aid in managing stress effectively. Maintaining a healthy routine is fundamental in fostering resilience. Regular sleep, a balanced diet, and time for relaxation are crucial components of a well-rounded self-care plan. Setting personal goals, whether academic, professional, or personal, can provide a sense of purpose and direction. Focusing on these goals helps me in maintaining motivation and a positive outlook, despite the challenging circumstances. Finally, practicing self-compassion is essential. It's important to be kind to oneself and recognize that it's okay to feel a range of emotions. Treating oneself with the same kindness and understanding as one would offer a friend can foster emotional healing and resilience.
    MISS Award
As a dedicated and motivated student, I am constantly seeking opportunities to challenge myself and grow both academically and personally. My passion for dental hygiene has been a driving force in my life, inspiring me to pursue excellence in all that I do. Coming from a small country in Africa, I have learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and resilience. I plan to make a positive impact with my career choice in dental hygiene by providing high-quality, compassionate care to my patients. I aim to educate my community about the importance of oral hygiene, preventive care, and the connection between oral health and overall health. My goal is to create a welcoming and supportive environment for my patients, where they feel comfortable and empowered to take charge of their oral health. Additionally, I hope to engage in community outreach programs, offering free dental hygiene services and education to underserved populations. By doing so, I aspire to reduce health disparities and ensure that everyone has access to the care and knowledge they need for a healthy smile. Even though I went straight from high school to college without taking a gap year, several factors make me a non-traditional student. One significant aspect is that I have been balancing my studies with substantial work responsibilities. Unlike many of my peers who focus solely on their academics, my need to work part-time or even full-time has given me a unique perspective on time management and prioritization. This experience has taught me valuable life skills that go beyond the classroom. Additionally, I might have taken on the role of a primary caregiver for a family member, which adds another layer of responsibility to my daily routine. This experience has instilled in me a deep sense of empathy, resilience, and the ability to handle stress effectively. These qualities are not typically developed through traditional academic routes but are crucial for personal and professional growth. Moreover, my involvement in various extracurricular activities, such as volunteering or participating in community service projects, has provided me with a broader understanding of the world around me. These experiences have enriched my education by allowing me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations, making my learning more practical and meaningful. In essence, my non-traditional status stems from the diverse experiences and responsibilities I juggle alongside my academic pursuits, which have shaped me into a well-rounded and resilient individual. While I don’t have kids yet and am still in school, I can imagine that motherhood teaches some really important lessons. One of the biggest lessons is patience. Taking care of a child requires a lot of patience as you deal with their needs, emotions, and growth. This patience isn't just about handling tantrums or sleepless nights; it's about understanding that both the child and the parent are learning and growing together. Another major lesson is resilience. Motherhood is full of unexpected challenges. From health issues to balancing work, school, and family life, mothers often face situations that test their strength and determination. This resilience helps in overcoming immediate problems and builds a strong foundation for facing future difficulties. Unconditional love is probably the most beautiful lesson. Motherhood teaches you to love someone completely, without expecting anything in return. This kind of love creates a deep bond and a nurturing environment where the child can grow. Being a mother also means learning how to multitask and manage time effectively. Balancing school, household chores, and taking care of a child requires great organizational skills. The ability to manage prioritize tasks is a valuable lesson that can help in all areas of life.

    PD Instore Scholarship
Hi scholars my name is Adeline and I’m 20 years old. I graduated cat Roseville Area High School in 2022 and now I’m attending at Century college for dental hygienist program. When I was 7 years old I had hard time to smile in front of a group of peoples because on my front two teeth I had another two teeth on top of them, and some of my friends used to laugh at me and start calling me some names that used to bother me and make me feel some type way every time they used to bullied me I went to my mom crying and tell her that my friends are bulling. My mom decided to take me to hospital and ask the doctor if they might be able to remove. Those two teeth but the doctor told her that they won’t be able to remove only those two teeth, but they will be able to remove all four of them it would be way easier and it even better. My mom was okay with it, and I got them four teeth removed. Ever since then I’ve been fascinated by the power of smile. When time past by I realized my passion for dental hygiene and the profound impact it can have on community health. Witnessing the barriers many faced in accessing the barriers many faced in accessing basic dental care, i was inspired to pursue a career where I could not only treat patients but also educate and empower communities. Reflecting on my journey, my passion for this field is rooted in a commitment to community engagement, with a vision to establish dental camps and educational workshops in underserved areas. By integrating advanced digital dentistry techniques and fostering inter professional collaboration, I am poised to enhance patient care and make a meaningful difference in the world of dental health. This scholarship is not just financial aid; it's a catalyst for the change I am eager to create. Community dental camps are a cornerstone of my vision to democratize dental care. Envisioned as regular events, these camps will serve as a beacon of hope in underserved communities, offering free dental check-ups, cleanings, and basic treatments. By partnering with local organizations and volunteers, we'll ensure that these camps are not only accessible but also tailored to meet the specific needs of each community. Education will be at the heart of these initiatives, empowering individuals with the knowledge to maintain their oral health. The impact of these camps will be measured not just in the smiles we restore, but in the long-term wellness and awareness we foster. This proactive approach to dental hygiene is designed to bridge gaps in healthcare and create a foundation for healthier communities. Through these camps, we will not only alleviate immediate dental issues but also instigate a ripple effect of health consciousness that resonates well beyond the confines of the dental chair. Educational workshops are a pivotal element of my plan to enhance oral health awareness. Tailored for various demographics, from children to the elderly, these workshops will provide practical, age-appropriate information on dental hygiene practices. Interactive and engaging, they will cover topics like proper brushing techniques, the importance of flossing, and the impact of diet on oral health. We'll also address common misconceptions and provide resources for continued learning and support. By collaborating with schools, community centers, and local health departments, we aim to create a sustainable educational framework that can be replicated across different regions. These workshops will not only teach immediate skills but also inspire participants to prioritize their oral health and become ambassadors of dental hygiene in their own families and communities. The ultimate goal is to instill a mindset where dental care is not seen as a luxury but as an integral part of overall health. With the knowledge gained from these workshops, individuals will be better equipped to prevent dental diseases and seek timely professional care, thus reducing the long-term burden on healthcare systems. Through education, we empower communities to take control of their oral health, paving the way for a brighter, healthier future. In conclusion, my dedication to dental hygiene goes beyond the clinic walls. By setting up dental camps and workshops, I aim to bring essential care to those who need it most. Integrating digital dentistry will modernize patient experiences, and through collaboration with other healthcare professionals, I'll ensure comprehensive care. My commitment is to excellence and to making a lasting impact on every patient's life. This scholarship will be a steppingstone to achieving these goals and advancing the field of dental hygiene.
