    Julius Quentin Jackson Scholarship
Dear Members of the Scholarship Committee I am honored for the opportunity to apply for the Julius Quentin Jackson scholarship. My name is Addison McDaniel. I am a dual enrolled senior at Greenbrier High School in Evans, GA and Georgia Military College. I will attend Fort Valley State University in the Fall of 2025. My parents instilled in me the importance and value of hard work in every endeavor. This character trait has helped me to push through my fears over the course of my life. Despite being fearful, I became a competitive swimmer. Hard work coupled with the ability to focus on the little things has led me to achieve big things. As a result, I have the distinct honor of holding four Central Savannah River Area swimming records. Equally, my hard work in the classroom has led to academic excellence and honors at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Last year, I was inducted in both the Senior Beta Club and National Honor Society. This school year, I received a Senior Academic Award for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 90.0 and above throughout my high school career. My grade point average is 3.74 on a 4.0 scale. Civically, I served nine years as a Girl Scout earning bronze and silver awards. After reading about several youth drownings in my community, I was motivated to take action. I became a lifeguard with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator certifications at age 15 and served at Girl Scout summer camp. It was hard work monitoring the safety of small children. However, I overcame my fears and accomplished the task. I began my current lifeguard position at the YMCA in October 2023. Commitment to excellence earned me a promotion to Head Lifeguard. As a health and fitness advocate, I have served as the manager for Greenbrier High School basketball teams for the past three years logging over 1500 volunteer hours. I am a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Multicultural Clubs. I also volunteered with Jack and Jill of America to teach water safety and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority on multiple service projects. I will major in agriculture economics. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and I will work towards contributing to its future. I aim to combine my understanding of business principles with the agricultural sector. I am particularly interested in innovative solutions to enhance sustainability and to improve food supply chains. I believe that financial freedom is one of the key components to personal success. My goal is to fully fund my education through my academic excellence and hard work. By earning this scholarship, I can dedicate myself to fully achieving goals by excelling in my career field, giving back to society, and inspiring others. I am committed to making the most of the opportunities given to me and those that lie ahead. A scholarship is not just financial support, but an investment in my future success. Sincerely, Addison McDaniel

Despite having stage fright, I became a competitive swimmer at the age of seven. In the water, I discovered I could tune out the noise of the crowd, focus on my breathing, execute my swim strokes, flip turns and accomplish the goal of winning my races.
