Coming from a Latino background, parents will go far and beyond to provide for their children. My parents were no different, they ventured from Colombia, to Mexico, and now reside here in the US, in hopes that I their son can make it far in life, in the place where you can be whatever your heart desires, the place we know where dreams can come true. Growing up, I have always been a strong believer in if you work hard for something, you’ll earn the unexpected. Essentially I have been focused on school since I was about 12 years old. You see, when one is growing up, they aren’t necessarily aware of the battles loved ones face. My parents would face battles, not amongst themselves or others, rather the never ending fight against discrimination. They were always looked down upon for who they were and what they did as a profession, both my parents were farm workers and would rise up at 3 in the morning and return home at 5 in the afternoon. Despite the lack of schooling my parents have had, they never sought to leave my education behind. My parents would do their best to get me into schooling and allow for tutors to be invited to our home to help me study harder. I would constantly be motivated my them and also brought down at the same time by the constant pressure, it was a mixed feeling of emotions yet it is always so inspiring to keep on pushing for them, to achieve ultimate success in life to make them retire peacefully. That being said, education is important to me, in hopes that I can obtain wealth through studying hard and performing well in school. School is something not meant to be taken lightly, I never know when to give up and I will continue to push until I reach my goal as quitting is not an option. My goals in life are to become a successful Dental Assistant and treat patients with safe and fun experiences, as well as being able to own a house and allowing my parents to move in with me before I hit the age of 30. I am currently enrolled into the American Institute of Dental Assisting meaning I am one stop closer to achieving these goals of mine in my life. I believe these goals can truly become a reality through this scholarship, as money won’t be an obstacle that will get in the way of my dreams, rather it will open the door for me into the commencement of the bright future I have up ahead and an overall view of the road ahead and the problems solved due to the financial difficulties gone.
