Hello! My name is Alex and I am a graduating senior, and a future computer science major. I hope to use my knowledge to create change in our society with technology. I've already begun my journey of education with the research of neural networks and algorithms at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. A big hobby of mine is playing volleyball. Throughout my high school experience, sports also played a big role in my life and I can't imagine myself without them. Last year, I helped win my school's first-ever state championship title, and have broken the best passing percentage record at my school. A long-term goal of mine is to create a tech company, devoted to seeking ways to help minorities and their everyday struggles. As a Hispanic student with a brother who has a disability, I understand the inequities and hardships many experience in the U.S. I want to see a future with more minorities holding STEM occupations and jobs that they desire. I've already begun making a change in high school, by co-founding the club Latinx in STEM, and by becoming a leader at Best Buddies. Scholarship money is not only necessary for my education, but it will also be a stepping stone to seeing my dreams become reality.
