I hope to finish my studio art Bachelor’s degree and continue on to pursue a Master’s degree. I would then like to go on to get a degree in criminal justice in order to become a forensic artist. I also want to do my own personal artwork and join the American Plein Air Society.

There’s so much beauty in Creation. I’ve always loved the great outdoors, and there’s something so special about being able to portray it in art form. I’m excited to start traveling the world and painting what I see, I find the most inspiration from mountain ranges, but I also love painting people and their environment. My goal is to one day enter plein air competitions, and to be part of the American plein air society.

I came from a home in which money was tight, but this only taught me to work hard and be diligent. Even though my family didn’t have a very high income, I was never in want of anything, my parents taught me and my siblings how to save and budget money, even if we didn’t have very much of it. God provided for us, even in times we didn’t think we had enough for something. Because of God’s provision, and my parents’ teachings on hard work and diligence, I knew I could get through college no matter what the financial burden was.
I grew up being the “smart kid”. It wasn’t hard for me to get A’s, even with little studying. I was on A honor roll throughout almost all of my school career, the one quarter I received B honor roll in high school crushed me, and it was all because of Spanish class. I graduated with honors from high school with a GPA of 3.81 and had SAT scores of 1170 which put me in the 77th percentile. Because of this, I was pretty confident going in to college. College was like nothing I’d ever imagined. I was trying to balance working a job while doing a full credit load of classes. I realized very quickly that I didn’t know how to study properly, it was my first time ever having a C in a class and that definitely hurt my pride. I worked hard from that freshman year, learned how to get my feet on the ground and have since been able to get on the dean’s list every semester. Unfortunately that freshman year still cost me, I was unable to get a prerequisite class which put me back a semester, I know have to have a senior year of three semester rather than two, which definitely was not part of my plan.
My career goal is to become a Forensic Artist. After I finish my undergrad, I want to pursue a Master’s degree in Fine Art, then possibly go to Police Academy or get a degree in criminal justice in order to be best equipped for that career. When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to do something involved in law enforcement, but I also felt as though God had given me some artistic abilities. When I discovered Forensic Art it was like the best of both worlds, I knew immediately that it was what I wanted to do. I could be in a career where my artwork would actually help people and solve crime, what an opportunity!
This scholarship would help me to achieve my goals to finish my undergraduate studies and to go on to the Master’s Program. I know I’ve worked hard to achieve my goals thus far, and this scholarship could help alleviate some of the financial burden. Thank you for the opportunity, and for considering my application.
