Passion, inspiration and motivation are innate qualities that one needs to have to pursue a career in the healthcare. My desire for nursing was inspired by years of growing up with a chronic illness. I was born with sickle cell anemia. The physicians and nurses back then did not have enough knowledge about the illness and did not have the right equipment to diagnose me. After three years of multiple hospital visits, I was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia. Growing up with sickle cell anemia , My experience as a patient in the hospital was life changing. Observing the nurses inspired my passion to care for people. Reason why i want to be a nurse is my interest in caring for people and helping them when they are at their worst. I find great satisfaction in caring for sick people by meeting their needs and helping them feel better to the best of my ability. Secondly, I have a passion for advocating for others, especially those who cannot advocate for themselves. I believe that having this great skill will help me make real positive changes in the lives of others. These reasons have made me feel a career in the health field as a nurse is truly for me. My determination to become a nurse grew stronger when I started working as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Working as a CNA has prepared me mentally, emotionally and physically to become a successful nurse. While working at I saw what it takes to become a nurse. I saw that it requires a lot of dedication, prioritization, and time management. I believe to provide exceptional quality care as a nurse one has to be patient, enthusiastic and reliable With my passion, strong work ethic, dedication, and my current skills and knowledge.

Passion, inspiration and motivation are innate qualities that one needs to have to pursue a career in the healthcare field. My desire for nursing as a career was inspired by years of growing up with a chronic illness. I was born with sickle cell anemia, which was not a well-known disease in Ghana at the time. The physicians and nurses back then did not have enough knowledge about the illness and did not have the right equipment to diagnose and/or treat the disease. I was in and out of the hospital for three years with no idea what was wrong. After three years of multiple hospital visits, I was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia. Growing up with sickle cell anemia for more than 25 years, I have been frequently around healthcare professionals. My experience as a patient in the hospital was life changing. Although the doctors may have given me the diagnosis, the nurses were the ones who spent their time with me and truly made my experience better. Observing the nurses inspired my passion to care for people, especially when they are sick and really need that help. There are two main reasons that have made me fall in love with nursing and the profession it provides. I have already foreshadowed the first, which is my interest in caring for people and helping them when they are at their worst. I find great satisfaction in caring for sick people by meeting their needs and helping them feel better to the best of my ability. Secondly, I have a passion for advocating for others, especially those who cannot advocate for themselves. I believe that having this great skill will help me make real positive changes in the lives of others. These two main reasons have made me feel a career in the health field as a nurse is truly for me. My determination to become a nurse grew stronger when I started working at the Neuro Rehab Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Working as a CNA has prepared me mentally, emotionally and physically to become a successful nurse. Providing basic fundamental care and assistance for my patients and being involved in their lives for the past five years has brought me great joy. While working at Neuro Rehab Center for the past five years, I saw what it takes to become a nurse. I saw that it requires a lot of dedication, prioritization, and time management. Being a black women in health care has thought me a lot of things about myself. It has not been an easy journey. As a black women with natural hair with an African accent I get judge everyday. From my co workers making fun of my accent to my patient constantly telling me repeat myself due to my accent. I am a black woman with two degrees and working on my third one but yet I get judge everyday because of skin color. This experience has shaped me to be open minded about everyone I come in contact with. I would uplift black women in medicine to stay focus and do what they were called to do which is saving lives. I would also advise them not let the negativity and racisms in health care get to them and also stand up for what the believe in.
