Volunteering with an Equine-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization has been one of the most impactful experiences of my life. It has not only deepened my understanding of the unique bond between humans and animals but also taught me valuable lessons about myself, my strengths, and areas for growth. One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is the importance of patience. Horses, by nature, are sensitive creatures that respond to energy and emotions, and working with them requires a level of patience that I hadn’t fully appreciated before. There were moments when I was working with a horse who was nervous or reluctant, and it became clear that forcing progress would only create more challenges. I quickly learned that patience is essential—not just with the animals but also with myself and others. In many situations, I had to pause, reassess, and approach the problem from a new angle. This process of slowing down and being present in the moment has taught me how to manage frustration and how to embrace the natural pace of growth, both for the horses and for the people I work with. Empathy has also been an important lesson from my volunteer service. In equine therapy, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with individuals facing a range of emotional and psychological challenges. As a trauma nurse, my education and career goals are focused on providing expert care and support to individuals who have experienced traumatic injuries. This field requires a high level of skill, knowledge, and compassion to effectively treat patients in critical situations. My goal is to pursue advanced education and training in trauma nursing to enhance my abilities and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. My father has been in more than one situation where he is been in the hospital and in critical condition, from horses to a motorcycle wreck that almost took him from my family. I want to be able to do what those doctors and nurses did to keep him from leaving us. without them, I really don't know if he would have been here today. He had many surgeries and lots of doctor appointments that helped him be here today with me and my family. I could not thank the nurses enough for what they did for my family by fighting for him As I finish out my senior year of high school I have wanted to be many things from a vet to an agriculture science teacher, to my now passion I have found being an ER and trauma nurse. With this scholarship, I would be able to take a little burden off myself and be able to focus more on my studies in pursuing such a taking career, I want to able to help people I want to be able to look for a family in the face after they have been worried for hours about what is happening to a loved one and be able to tell them they're going to be okay. I am well aware that it isn't always the case, there are going to be hard times when we aren't able to save them, but still be able to do everything we could to save them. To end this all off I could not be more grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me to be able to pursue such a career and to find a passion for it as strong as I have for wanting to help people.
