I am a Senior at Auburn University studying Neuroscience and French. I am double majoring in these subjects and pursuing a pre-medical school curriculum in addition. Auburn does not offer a pre-med Neuroscience program so I have been communicating with the College Of Sciences and Mathematics to construct a plan of study that will be equivalent to one.
My course load is heavy, and I have constantly pushed myself and my limits for the past three years at Auburn. However, in Spring of 2026 I had to come to terms with the fact that the pace I had set and the standards I held myself to were unsustainable. I made the difficult decision to medically withdraw and take the time to reconnect with myself before I could return to classes. From this experience I realized that I had burnt out years ago, having not taken a true break since high school.
Today, I am officially registered for courses for the coming semester, Fall 2026. I am more excited to learn than I have been in a long time, and find myself looking forward to working towards my degrees. I have also begun volunteering with the local CARE Humane Society and am pursuing a part-time campus job to both gain experience and give back to the community that has supported me.
Unfortunately, taking a semester off combined with my rigorous plan of study will require an additional semester(s) to pursue my bachelor degree. Adding to this, my brother will be joining me at Auburn starting this fall. With two children attending a large university, my family is thankful for any scholarship either of us can get.

My Number 1 back-to-school tip is to separate your workspace and your relaxation space.
As a certified "dorm dweller", I speak from experience when I say trying to relax in a workspace does not work out. My first year of dorm life I completed all my homework in my room and boy did I regret it. Soon enough just being in my room had me stressing about not being productive. This was a problem because, you know, I slept there.
But luckily for me and you there is an easy fix! The best solution is to work OUTSIDE of your room. Your room is supposed to be the "Safe Zone" so do not bring all that negative energy in! Go to the library, work outside, claim a study room, even sit on the floor in a random hallway Just. Get. Out. and your quality of "dorm dwelling" life will increase dramatically!
