Bio

I am Aaron Wimbley. I come from Native American, African American, Jewish, and Chinese backgrounds. My experiences have exposed me to shortages in health, math, science, and arts opportunities for students of color. These shortages make it harder for students of color to succeed. I finished two years of college at Santiago College and am transferring to UC-Irvine. I have two businesses; one is a tutoring company, and the second is a pet sitting animal care company. I am developing an after-school enrichment program for minority high school students in chemistry. This is a collaboration with some friends I study music with. I am a vocalist; I can sing opera, pop, Chinese, and also German and French. I love baseball; my team won the city championship, the regional, and another title. I am a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do. I am also an actor. I recently was the lead in the Greatest Showman and I also was a lead in Marry Poppins. I was lucky and did the project RAISE summer research program at CSUF. We learned different lab techniques and presentation skills. I have completed Calculus 1 and 2, General Chemistry, Physics, and Cell Biology. I need two or three classes to finish the required medical and dental school classes. I finished Calculus before 8th grade and General Chemistry in 9th grade at the college. My goal is to be an MD/Ph.D. and DDS. . I may become a facial plastics surgeon or an ENT physician. I have been giving back, and I thrive on helping other people. I am also a master valorant player. I am fluent in Chinese and Spanish. I love video games

My older brother, Anthony, could not smile and sometimes did not hear us. Our single dad also was aware, and we all went with him to see a pediatric neurologist. Unfortunately, Anthony has a severe form of Muscular Dystrophy. Muscular Dystrophy does not have any medical treatment. However, the neurologist recommended doing things to improve brain and neurological plasticity. We began studying Mandarin, martial arts, violin, and piano. The study of certain sounds and the use of certain sounds may have benefits for nerve development and recovery. We both attended Chinese school and learned to play piano and violin. Anthony improved for several years and earned an A in PE, which was extremely hard because of muscular dystrophy. However, it was significant because they generally do not improve. Anthony and I started a nonprofit organization, The Kids for Kids -we gave away violins and lessons, and two pianos to Huntington Beach Youth Shelter, which empowered numerous minority kids who were homeless or in a family crisis. Kids for Kids allowed me to tutor other youth in math and expose them to Chinese. We taught the youth to learn some basic violin skills. We were also very joyful at being able to give the violin to each youth in the program. It was an excellent learning experience. I plan on continuing with this project once I climb to the undergraduate level. It is rewarding to make this type of impact, and the hope and change you feel is palpable. We gave each youth a peer tutor who believed in them, improving self-esteem and lasting effect on each child in the program and me. This impacts my major and my goals as a student and beyond. Genomics is the study of genes at the molecular level using tools from molecular biology. There are several types of muscular dystrophy; the most common is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Facio Humeral Muscular Dystrophy. FHSD commonly affects the facial muscles and weakens them, making it hard to smile, and it may also affect the hearing mechanism unknown, and it affects the heart/ Anthony has FHSD, which is the one I want to focus my research thoughts on. These therapies are investigational for a particular type and may one day lead to new treatments. This allows patients with FHSD to regain the use of facial muscles and muscles of the back and limbs and regain their physical strength. These techniques can effectively heal a major physical disability that is affecting my brother, and because of his genetics, it could affect my future children or me, so it is of great importance to me personally and professionally. Please approve my Alexander scholarship application at UC Irvine. By being a Alexander scholar, I will be able to volunteer to help in their lab and learn of this important vital molecular biology research. I shall be a successful student chemist and then attend medical school as an Alexander scholar,

Witnessing my mother getting taken 51/50. after stabbing herself was somewhat traumatic. She was frustrated about having to pay child support maybe. This was an extreme reaction. She was always furious. I wish she could have been directed to Anger Management. Later she evicted me and my dad. It happened the night before I started my Spring term, demanding I move to participate. I As a high school and college student during Covid and at increased risk for Covid, I also got brain fog. This puts stress on me because my focus was now disrupted. It made getting things done more of a challenge, my memory was now off, and it took much more effort to accomplish something. I aim to be a primary care physician, and assessing patients for their mental health needs is about 50 percent of their medical problems. Learning how to teach healthy living is an integral part of practicing medicine. The keys to unlocking a new life path are teaching stress reduction, overcoming anxiety, and better nutrition for better wellness. After my mother's episode, I was forced to go through court-ordered therapy. Isn't that special? I did not do anything, but because she was in crisis, I had to go through many stressful sessions, which interfered with my ability to do one of my organic chemistry labs. However, there was just nothing that I could do. My Professor would not listen to my issue even though it was not my issue, which was a terrible problem. This means I have to withdraw and retake the class. However, it will not be offered again for another year. I do not understand why our school is doing things this way. Today with an emphasis on mental health would think that things would be evolving for a new and better generation of wellness incorporated into STEAM teaching. Unfortunately, we have a long ways to go to improve the treatment of students and the issues that our students must process to be well-adjusted and respond to stressors. I have one Professor, Dr Dong, who gets "it" she is an Organic Chemistry teacher who incorporates the best learning strategies right with the student's lecture presentations. She even proved her theory that almost every student can earn an A in Organic Chemistry. With proper teaching support and an excellent set of resources, can very challenging exams have an 80 percent average? Whereas other Professors on the same campus have 50 percent averages which means large numbers of students are not passing this key class to becoming a pharmacist, medical doctor, nurse or dentist. However, we have a shortage in all of these professions, so we can change our hearts and instruction, and we can then deliver better results.

College and Stem and being premed are almost contradictory. Learning complex science material, often carrying several dense classes, and maintaining a healthy life balance is a monstrous challenge. I we start doing the right thing for our health, we may miss out on study sessions keeping up with homework, and such. This semester I am seeing a nutritionist every three weeks, keeping a diary, and working with several diets to try to lose weight and optimize my physical health. I also have a personal trainer and meet with him twice weekly every Monday and Tuesday. Last week my therapist appointment was on Tuesday afternoon, and I missed by Orgo lab due time. I have docked two grades on the assignment. It is frustrating that our faculty's artificial deadlines seemingly may put some of us at risk of not doing well physically and mentally. I have been blessed this semester to have an exceptional teacher. My Organic Lecture professor is amazing. She structured the class so each student had a practice exam during the course. She also had the TAs do review sessions. She is also kind and encourages all the students that every student can earn an A, so a teacher teaching the most challenging class with empathy, compassion, and concern for our mental health makes a huge difference. The average grade was a High B, near an A on the first midterm. In contrast, my lab teacher would not allow my lab even though I had a doctor's appointment and a family emergency. We need to make progress in how we educate teachers so we can have high standards and do things differently to have better student performance and health,

    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Math is the basis of everything. Math gives the basis of physics and physics the basis of chemistry, and chemistry is the basis of biology. Biology is the basis of anatomy and physiology. So math brings everything together. By tying the musicality of math and the sound with the language, we can make the language of math. If we give all children an education in mandarin and music, we change how their brains hear a sound, changing how they learn. This would allow all children to excel in math. We would change the disparities in education by bringing an end to the math gap. The key to STEM is math, and unlocking the key and closing the gap in learning is quickly done by connecting music and language. This then overcomes the math gap. This can also bridge cultures and allow all people to connect locally and globally. This allowed me to take Calculus at age ten and succeed; my brothers could do the same. Math does require parental support but once engaged; math success is reasonably achievable.

I am a premed chemistry major. The first thing I did was i attended college starting in 7th grade at the Santiago Canyon community college which was very affordable. The next thing I worked hard to get admitted to the prestigious University of California Irvine which averages 13,000 a year in student loan debt. Next, I have applied to over 100 scholarships, even though I have high grades and volunteer and am BIPOC i have not won any scholarships except one from a different college for 15,000 a year that I turned down because the school cost more an additional 25,000 a year in student loans. I remain resilient and keep applying for financial help it is hard. However, I have a lot of positive things I can contribute. If I can win enough financial aid, I will be able to volunteer and help my BIPOC communities with free or low-cost medical/dental care. In the end if I have to take out the loans It will be worth it to be able to help others. I also tutor when i have time. This year I am taking organic chemistry and may not be able to work my business. I believe if I win your scholarship, I will use it to reduce my student loan debt. When I graduate, I will create a scholarship fund or make a contribution to your scholarships so we can keep paying it forward.

I am Aaron Wimbley. I come from a Native American, African American, Jewish, and Chinese background. My experience has exposed me to shortages in health, education, and arts opportunities for students of color. These shortages make it harder for students to succeed. I am interested in Chemical Engineering because I have a solid mathematical and Science foundation. Chemical Engineers design the plants where pharmaceuticals are made and may also design new NanoSystems that test new chemicals at the receptor or microscopic level. I am interested in neuromuscular diseases, so learning about how the systems typically work biologically, then learning biomechanics, and then seeing if there is a new chemical process at the molecular level that may help the patients regain function. Also, I still have much to learn, so a research job will hopefully be in the works for me. I am interested in genomic research because we may be able to cure some disabling diseases. I am transferring to the University of California, Irvine, to complete my BS in Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering before going for my Ph.D. or DVM or MD. During my education, I would like to continue playing Erhu and singing as a way to share the arts with the community. I live with my Dad. He is a single parent and had three operations in the past 18 months. I appreciate the financial assistance. It will make it possible for me to succeed, volunteer, and give back to the community.

I started the Chinese Music Instrument Club to share Chinese language Culture and Music with everyone. I also have a non-profit where we raise money to buy homeless youth Violins and provide free lessons, So both instruments are stringed violins. The youth were given violins because stringed instruments and music playing make the brain's music center grow. Scientists know the music center is next to the math center, so increasing the music area makes the math area grow. For at-risk youth, passing algebra is what is blocking their high school graduation. The shelter's residents are homeless middle and high school students, so our goal was to improve their graduation rates and help them be able to attend college. So we also provided pianos and a piano teacher. For Christmas, we put up lights. I also tutor at-risk youth in math and Chemistry complimentary because we need to help other BIPOC children to succeed. It is the key to making the world a better place. I have been blessed with learning the violin, the erhu, and singing. However, if you put music in every kindergarten and teach every black and Latino child to play piano and violin, give it ten years and watch us ROAR. This is why so many minority students are not finishing high school and college. I just did not know how much of a problem that the law was changed before I was born, and it still happened to me. And I am a top student. I had a 4.1 GPA and finished almost all the medical school prerequisites at the college, and it still happened to me. I need this scholarship, I need to get my foundation funded, and I need to go to medical school and law school. Algebra is better taught before middle school and before the people who see us as inferior can limit our ability to graduate. They even have the law "only a high school can certify passing algebra".

I am the proud parent of five dogs and two cats. When I was five and decided I wanted to be a doctor for small household animals—specifically, cats and dogs. I have an allergy to cats and dogs, so I picked out a Maltese and a Maltipoo, mostly Maltese but black. I wanted to have a black Maltese, which is a contradiction. Our pets are like us, sometimes full of contradictions. My dad has had three primary operations in the past couple of years, and I have had Covid at least three times. My babies had gotten me through the long nights and days when my dad was in the ICU. It has been challenging, and my dogs get me up in the morning and help me take naps from exhaustion. When my dad got back home, they helped him through the night. The puppies make both of us laugh and smile. Joy is upon us; I a giant furball. My goal is to transfer to chemistry and then apply for a DVM. I would enjoy a career providing care to small dogs and cats. When times are tough with challenging classes, I can count on my babies to help me pull through.

I love Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They are both always smiling and happy. Even though they are mice, they are smiling, making you feel good inside, and you think they are clean, safe, and loving. Mickey is devoted to Minnie. Minnie can do no wrong, and Mickey treats her like he is his Queen. The way Mickey treats her increases his stature as a leader and the King of the Disneyland Magic Kingdom. People always line up to see Mickey and Minnie when you visit Disney park. The demeanor of the cute pair is always patient, and Love The Love they share for each other transcends time as the couple does not age in a Love Time warp. The two always have silly escapades with the same end of Mickey saving the day of the woman Mouse he loves. Minnie is a worthy Queen. Minnie is sweet, loving, kind, and devoted to Mickey. Minnie is an adorable dignified cute Mouse. They are two of the world's first cartoon characters and have withstood the test of time. They are the fundamental American family valuesLoveut family, Love, and strength of character even in adversity. They have brought the company much wealth and success, but the pair are not really into any material good. The only good for these two is their Love for each other and the Billions of children worldwide.

My experience has exposed me to shortages in health, education, and arts opportunities for students of color. These shortages make it harder for students to succeed. I am a second-year Santiago College student. I tutor a few students, complimentary in math. I plan to expand to teach in a summer program possibly we are developing for high or middle school students. When I was small, my parents knew I was gifted in math, science, and languages. I was learning Algebra before I was seven, finishing Calculus with Stanford Online at nine, and in College when I was ten. I am pursuing Chemical Engineering because I am gifted in advanced math and Chemistry, I love baseball, so I play on a practice team while we wait for the Covid Pandemic. I am also a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do. Sports help keep the mind and body sharp and ready for academics. I learn the material after I tutor someone to help them master the material. I look forward to one day being a peer advisor for the Raise Summer Science Research Program. I have a small pet-sitting business. I am interested in becoming a veterinarian, so this can help me have insights into the needs of small animals. I enjoyed last summer’s virtual research experience. We need professionalism in class, lab, and library. We should also schedule fun events to encourage underrepresented students to work hard and achieve a STEM career. We can also work together. Lab and research experiences are where the team comes into academia. . Today I volunteer as a tutor to help other students of color excel in their science classes. In the long term, I am considering a career as a Ph.D. or DVM and continuing to teach younger students. I hope to be able to be part of the positive needed change. I am interested in Chemical Engineering because I have a solid mathematical and Science foundation. My older brother, Anthony, could not smile, and he sometimes did not hear us. However, it was a significant thing because generally, they do not improve. Anthony and I started a nonprofit organization, The Kids for Kids -we gave away violins and lessons and two pianos to Huntington Beach Youth Shelter, which empowered numerous minority kids who were homeless or in a family crisis. The kids for kids concept is a nonprofit that could be self-sustaining. That would be inexpensive to operate. We raised the money for the violins. We also bought two electronic keyboards and a piano. We gave away 50 violins to each homeless youth. Resident at the youth shelter. Then we had some students from high school volunteer. This reduced the cost of hiring teachers. My violin teacher went to Julliard because we could finance this. My teacher Mischa would give the lesson to our beginning teachers, and then they would teach the class to the Residents. Some other high school students have been playing violin for five or six years to train some staff at the youth shelter how to play the violin, and then they would have some more residents. Then we would have circles to help teach the younger student. And then. Together we could get music lessons without having to spend that much money for the music lessons for each resident could have some beginning violin lessons. And the reason why we picked violins is this. This is an instrument that we could afford. Kids who play the violin can do Algebra. Algebra is the block from finishing high school. No algebra= no diploma= cycle of poverty. We were able to give each youth a violin that was theirs to take when it was time for them to go home or to foster care. This violin was an island that could go when the resident had to go home or foster care. , Because when you're homeless, you can't take a piano with you, and sometimes you don't know where you're going to be, but they can take a violin with them. Like with Anthony's neuroplasticity, we also knew that if we could get these kids, we would never have unlimited opportunities. My goal this year is to raise the money and buy at least 50 more violins for homeless Orange County Latino youth and the money for their lessons. My other goal is to get a team of UCI students of color to volunteer as tutors for the homeless youth. We will present them with a grant in each child's name so they know they can attend community college with a gift for their first year of community college. I will also work with compiling a list of aid for kids in the foster system, so they do not have to hunt for it. We will also establish an extensive brother-sister program, so each child has a college sibling for support.

I have allergies to dogs. However, my babies do not bother me. My family has been through transitions, but I can always count on my babies to be beside me, sharing some love. Healthy Living Scholarship
Part of being successful means physical, mental, and psychological fitness and well-being. These are more important than financial well-being because if you lose your physical, mental, and psychological well-being, your financial success will soon be lost. Even if you strategize ways to keep your financial resources through trust and lose your mental health, your enjoyment of your health will be limited. It is essential to have good eating and sleeping habits; not sleeping can make you prone to accidents at home, work, and on the roadways. Any accident could create severe physical injuries that would limit the enjoyment of any financial wealth or position. I want to get married and have children, and as a husband and father, it is essential to lead by example. Having ethics is a crucial trait to share and mentor my children. We want to live and model the best values for our families. After all, if your children are not healthy, this would create tremendous stress and anxiety because our most important asset has a healthy family. Cigarettes should never be smoked. They can cause cancer of the lung bladder and other problems and are expensive. Having good dental hygiene is also essential. Poor dental habits can lead to problems with your cardiovascular system through oral cavity infections. It is easier to have a healthy life and maintain it than to try to treat diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. Even with the best treatments and providers, many of these conditions are losing battles. Being healthy is a skill that can be learned and practiced, and it's essential to pass this on to the next generation.

I come from Cherokee, Seminole, African American, German Jewish, and Chinese backgrounds. Two of my grandmothers were indigenous people from the southeast united states, my mother and uncle immigrated from Taiwan, and their parents originated in Yunnan; my grandfather immigrated from Germany with his parents after World War 1 because things were getting dangerous for Jews. My mother's parents were going through a difficult divorce, and it was easier, or they thought it better for a twelve-year-old seventh grader to move to the Bay Area to go to middle school without either parent. They call it a melting pot, but they mean shedding. Because what all of us do is shed our culture. However, that is precisely what you should not do. When I was ten, my dad took me to one of the Southern California Pow-Wows. At first, I was apprehensive, but before we were out of the parking lot, the drumbeat had my body pulling like a magnet. Excited, we reached the dance arena. The fancy dancers were having a contest at that moment. I could see how my parents had come together through a chance meeting and dancing. This is who we are supposed to be rich, energetic, happy, robust, and rhythmically moving in circles and circling each other. Our breathing and rhythm flowing through around and to each other. We are supposed to connect through music and these pulses and rhythms. If you travel to China and go to a rural village, you will find people playing their drums and erhu relaxing, making music, dancing, and connecting. My grandfather grew up in Columbus his goal was to be a schoolteacher and help the youth in his community. He met my grandmother, and they were married a month later. He quietly said, respect the woman you love, and be proud to have a woman to cherish and love. He would look at men today and shake his head. Nothing to think about when you love your woman and your children. The purpose of education is to provide a better quality of life for those you love in your family. Your education's second goal is to contribute positively to our community and communities. The more we know, the more we can share, and by sharing, we are breaking down chains and Harnesses. After all, we are all part of the same family.

Sometimes just getting up and making it to my computer was bold and brave. Last year on 1/11/21, I had been coughing for a couple of days, and this morning, I could not breathe my throat with intense throbbing pain. I was supposed to ride shotgun with my, Dad on his way to have surgery, but now I have Covid 19`. My dad was hit from behind on his way home from work by someone with a bad behind. Dad went to urgent care with an MRI and CT scans. Long story short, we are BIPOC with great insurance. Do you think you did any tests? You got it 100percnet. No. Two weeks later, dad leaves work but is faint and calls uber to Cedars Sinai. He had a heart attack in the Emergency Room right when Covid was discovered. So, he even had his heart stop a couple of times. So that was in 2020. So, I was bold. I kept my eyes open and held back the tears. Dad was lucky to get a gift from God to operate. The doctor was excellent. He fixed three damaged valves. Dad was in ICU, and I was bold, and I prayed, and he got better and came home. However, he needed at least two more surgeries. So, I had to stay bold and keep doing my thing so dad could keep being my dad. So, this past year I had this White Man at school tear, my family apart with lies and crazy stuff. I had a 4.0 plus GPA, and both me and dad were high risks. But this white knows I have Covid several times. He won't accept my doctor's notes and is forcing me into danger. I will be Bold because Covid could kill Dad.

What does my AAPI culture mean to me, and why am I interested in Asian American studies /languages'? I grew up with my single dad. He is a native American and grew up in Taiwan; My grandmother took care. Every day, she taught me Mandarin, Vietnamese and Spanish. My Mom is from Taichung, and her parents are both from Taichung, Taiwan. AAPI culture means connections through foods, music, and art to my Chinese family and Vietnamese. Because part of my family /friends left China and came through Vietnam, we are very close. Unfortunately, I lost my Vietnamese speaking ability, and my other grandma is not around very much. Stands grew up speaking for Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. My Mom is from Taiwan, and our family comes from Yunnan Province. I grew up speaking Mandarin and playing erhu. I am part of the South Coast Chinese Orchestra and play in the erhu section. I was also the featured vocalist for all of our Non-instrumental pieces. I also was a vocalist in the Orange County Children's Choir. I also was part of the National Chinese Honor Society. I am interested in the culture because it makes me feel safe and at peace and reminds me of being at home with my grandmothers in Taiwan; I like the smells on Sunday morning when we are out for Dim Sum with our whole family. It reminded me of later when we went to Church at our Newsong, our Korean American Church, and how it was fun growing up in the church. I come from diverse backgrounds and help many people from diverse backgrounds through my volunteer activities. I play the erhu for Chinese New Year and other Asian festivals with the Orchestra for our old Chinese retirees and others in our community. We always conduct ourselves with the utmost professionalism. I am a student in the STEM area, and I volunteer as a tutor to help other students of color succeed. I also will be joining the Chinese Medical Association as a student member. I feel we all should support our Chinese Immersion Schools and volunteer to help the next generation. I started a Chinese Instrument and Music Club and will look for like-minded students at the University of California - Irvine. I want to get a group of erhu players together and see if we can make a group; I was the president and founder of the Chinese Musical Instrument Club. I helped other students learn about Chinese music and instruments and gave them beginning lessons to get familiar with the bow and some basic techniques. I have studied Chinese at the Irvine Chinese school. As a kid, I grew up playing and learning the language, and I also attended immersion school at Renascence Immersion school and later at Camelot Academy. In High school, I continued my Chinese studies and completed the AP Chinese test, and now I am a student at the University of California studying Chinese. I am not sure which class they will place in. I am considering majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Chinese. Being in the Chinese Honor Society makes you set high goals for scholarly work. It also makes you stay focused and determined to be a professional student. It also was an excellent way to connect socially. I am looking forward to joining the Chinese Medical Association.

What does the "American Dream Mean"? The American dream is the ability to live freely, worship freely, obtain an education, have a job with upward mobility, have healthcare, marry, and live and have housing where you desire. However, without Amelia Robinson, Samuel Boynton, Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and everyone working for the voting rights act, we would cease to have the American Dream. The dream is sustained and maintained by people moving their pens and feet to polling places. It is also people licking their stamps and kissing envelopes putting ballots in the mail. It is people watching the news and arguing with their kids about Donald Trump; it is every act of conversation of engagement in our democracy and ensuring that every person is an information-driven citizen. It is training every child that we must end racism. We are at risk if any person is denied their rights and liberties. Amelia Boynton was a role model for all of us. She was involved in the "struggle work" early in the 1930s. She ran voter registration drives; years later ran for Congress. Amelia knew that women and black people must register to vote and vote to be safe and have any possibility of being free. Blacks needed to register and vote. Amelia was there when the horrific Bloody Sunday occurred; Amelia was beaten unconscious. Many Blacks were brutalized on Bloody Sunday, marching for freedoms that Black people have been waiting for hundreds of years for. My name is Aaron Wimbley. I come from a Native American and African American Background. Boynton's story has many messages, some verbal and others quiet. The quiet news is to respect your girlfriend, marry her, lift her, and allow her to be who she chooses. As men respect Black women, children respect their mothers. Amelia was in college when she met her husband; Education is important, so all Black students need to be students first find a career or trade and pursue it fully, excelling in your path; next, All Black students must register to vote the night before they turn 18. We should change Juneteenth to" Votenettenth"; without voting, we are lost. Like Amelia, consider starting a voting drive, be active, follow her example and help others. I have strengths in math and science. I am a chemistry major at the University of California Irvine. I volunteer as a tutor for African American students in physics, math English, Chinese, and Spanish. We must work to overcome barriers, and we must help retain students who are already in the University. As students, we work to build a support network to help all of us first succeed. I aim to finish college and help as many others graduate as possible. In California, they have AB 359 - because almost all black students are placed by counselors in math lower than Algebra when they enter high school. I had already finished Calculus, but that did not matter. They see a black student and put a brick blocking a Stem being planted. Without algebra, there is no science, no STEM, and no black engineers. I am starting a network at my college to address this problem for Black students in California. We have a law explicitly stopping this practice from hurting black students, but no one knows about it. I must maintain my grades and continue recruiting and helping retain black and native American students. I plan to be a physician and volunteer in the communities where we have the most need. I plan a voter registration drive in Umoja ,

My first day in AP Chem the teacher said," You are in the wrong classroom." I showed her my class list, which said AP Chemistry in bold print. MS Johnson kept saying things like this the first 5/6 weeks of school. At the same time, I was Taking General Chemistry at the College and was getting all A's on my exams, I was the only African American/Native American in the class, but there was no excuse. I had won top student in Algebra 2 and also a top student in Chemistry at Emerson School for the Gifted. Dr. King said," We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope." As a student from African American, Native American has exposed me to shortages in health and math. Biology, arts education, and opportunities for students of color. These shortages make it harder for students to succeed. What we have to deal with can be very discouraging, but he must not lose hope. We to stay connected and stay on the path and be strong. When covid hit, I had asthma, and I was very ill. It took six months for me to get back my strength and to be able to breathe more efficiently; it is not known why people of color are more at risk. However, my doctors wrote for accommodations, and the white Dean at my school made numerous excuses because he would not follow my doctors' recommendations. So, unfortunately, I got another Covid infection. This was very hard on me physically and academically, and there was no reasoning. This man had power over me and was a threat to my success and health; my school and the state had said all high-risk students and even those that are allowed to attend school online and not even need justification. This new administrator would not accept my doctor's notes; this was becoming intolerable and brought me to tears, the lack of humanity in someone in power, I was also a second-year Santiago College student. I tutor other BIPOC students to try to help them on the path to STEM success; I have encountered roadblocks on the way to success. I teach my students to apply DDT, dedication, determination, and time management to the blocks they encounter. I also give them ideas on how to approach biology, chemistry, or calculus, and with a few hours of work, the light bulbs are going on again. We planned to expand our program to have more BIPOC students in a preview of General Chemistry so more of our students could be successful. I love baseball, so I play on a practice team while we wait out the Covid Pandemic. I am also a Brown Belt in Tae Kwon do. Sports help me keep my mind and body sharp and ready for academics. I learn the material by tutoring. It is then that I master the material. My long-term goals are to become a medical doctor and obtain my Ph.D. and my DDS. I want to finish with chemistry, biology, and premedical studies. I am transferring to the University of California Irvine as a Junior, so I am overcoming adversity on a path of excellence. I live with my dad. He has had three primary operations in the past 18 months. I appreciate the financial assistance. It will make it possible for me to succeed and make it easier to keep volunteering and giving back to the community. I aim to become a medical doctor and teacher and volunteer several days a week once I am a physician.
