Minority Women in STEM Financial Need Scholarship
In college, I pride myself on constantly thinking about my goals and making decisions directed at where I want my career to go. My biggest career goal is to have a job lined up directly after graduating. Throughout my time at the University of North Texas, I plan to do internships each summer, finding a more advanced opportunity each summer to achieve e this goal. I have already started I have a STEM internship lined up teaching kids about what I love. This will allow me to gain a better understanding of my passion, as being able to teach it to somebody else ensures complete understanding. Having these internships each summer will allow me to have good references and make connections within the realm of people I will meet.
Another career goal of mine is to be a part of a research group that specializes in finding new ways to get better imaging in the medical field. I will achieve this goal by talking to professors who have research studies to get hands-on learning making me more equipped to succeed once I graduate. Lastly, a career goal of mine is to be able to work in the imaging section of biomedical engineering.
I chose this career because I wanted to be in the medical field, but on the sidelines producing products that will help advance medicine, and be a part of the change. I knew being a doctor or a nurse was not for me, due to how emotionally attached I could get. However, being able to use my knowledge and passion for helping people and creating something new would be amazing. I specifically have a passion for neuroimaging.
As the nervous system can be tricky because it is so intricate I want to be able to gain a place in the field to be able to create something that can detect neurological disorders faster and quicker than what we can now. At least be able to be apart of a community that is working efficiently to advance the neurological aspect of medicine. though I do not have a direct company in mind right now, I plan to start looking further into where I would like to live and the company I would like to work for starting my sophomore year.
I know that with my willpower and using the resources around me I will be able to achieve those goals. I believe it is important to constantly visualize and check in on what we have planned for ourselves.
