Graduating high school at 15 should’ve been the most amazing day of my life. Unfortunately, that feeling of success was subdued by a very persistent feeling of emptiness. Why could I only focus on the 1 million thoughts swirling around in my head ?
Like most of my generation, I suffer from depression and anxiety. Coming from a low income family didn’t really help my situation either. I got the help I needed through government funded mental health care & I believe it is so important for anybody that deals with a mental illness to be able to get the help they deserve.
To make mental health care accessible and affordable, I would create a variety of online and in-person programs. Online programs would include, support groups, social media campaigns, and virtual therapy sessions. Online mental health care can allow access to therapy from anywhere in the world, plus it may be beneficial for those who have trouble with transportation and can be more financially accessible for low income individuals. The in-person programs would include support groups for all ages, community clinics, and mental health education. I feel that programs like this should be implemented around the world, to make mental health unstigmatized and to provide accessible healthcare.
