Bio

Thank you for visiting my profile. My name is Adaline and I am currently a Senior at AACT high school, in the Graphic Design program. Concurrently I am a college Junior at TMCC, receiving my Associate of Arts degree in Psychology at the end of the fall semester. Apart from my academics, I am a quite creative and organized person. I love graphic design - making planners, branding, illustrations, and more - but also to create crafts, such as 3d origami and carving foam pumpkins. I have volunteered at the VA hospital under the visual information specialist due to my love for the field and have over 80 hours of volunteer experience there. Separately, I have an intense love for both animals (particularly dogs) and books. On the animal side, I have some volunteering experience at the Humane Society assisting with the cats, as well as I have combined my graphic love with this and briefly started a pet portrait business called Artistry by Adaline, to help express owner's love for their pets. As for the books, I have always been an avid reader. I particularly love fiction, for the stories that take me away from the stresses of life, and learn from other people's relationship, but there has always been a gentle respect and appreciation for non-fiction as well. For the last 2 years I have been volunteering at my local library every week, assisting in all aspects of the library. I have grown to love and to be loved by all the staff members, as we are all bonded by the appreciation for the books and knowledge (or relief) they contain as well as helping the people who come in.

Volunteering was one of the turning points in my life, though it didn’t start that way - first I volunteered at the Humane Society to get 8 hours of community service for my school. But when I searched for another way to get hours, I rediscovered a childhood passion of mine – the library. Visits to the library, for most of my life, were frequent and appreciated, whether I was going for the toys in the kids area or the young adult novels. But it was on one of those visits when I was 15 that I found that this was one of the places I enjoyed being in the most. It was during that visit that I applied to be a volunteer, and in December of 2022, became one. In the last couple years my involvement has changed drastically. The hours I needed for school passed by in just a few weeks and I found that I enjoyed the work enough to stay, earning over 200 volunteer hours. I found enjoyment in the satisfaction of putting things back in its place, but also to assist in the enjoyment of kids coming for programs, such as making slime, painting, storytime, or in reading to therapy dogs. Soon it wasn’t about me, but it was about the impact I made on the kids and patrons there, in addition to the library staff’s work. I continue to be inspired by that every day I volunteer. One of my favorite moments came Halloween this year, when I transformed the book return bin into a “monster” with a sign that said, “Feed me!” Just after I finished making it, two children rushed in, squealed in delight, and eagerly told their dad, “We have to feed the monster!” That excitement, that joy—it showed me how even the smallest gestures can have a big impact on the people around us. Last year, I used that inspiration to help more people – I partnered with two others to create life skills classes for people of all ages, teaching basic finances, people skills, technology, and time management at the library. Since then, I started volunteering for more time each week, getting more involved, taking on some of the work of the staff, whether it is packaging books, using the Cricut independently for projects, creating displays, or assisting with various programs. Throughout all this, I’ve realized: even the smallest things I can do to help make the biggest difference. With those kids and the staff, I see the impact I make, and every weekend I do the best I can to maximize the change I make. While it may not be large, every slightest change makes all the difference. Thank you for reading.
      Mental Health Importance Scholarship
I find that mental health is one of the most underrated aspects of health and wellness. When mental health is neglected, stress, anxiety, and other challenges can prevent people from achieving what they set out to achieve. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to see evidence of mental health struggles in everyday life—whether it's the pressure to succeed, the endless tasks to be completed, or the societal expectations we try to meet. By the time I was in elementary school, I often found myself almost paralyzed by anxiety—whether it was overachieving in homework or navigating social situations. These moments of stress felt overwhelming, shaping my choices and behavior even into high school. I still find that stress and anxiety popping up when I thought it was gone, still a shadow looming over my shoulder, but now more of those concerns that haunted me for years have become mundane and trivial. When covid hit, I spent a year (at age 12-13) at home, thinking about life. During that time, I came out of depression and thoughts of suicide, and for the first time, thought about the future. Because of that, I went to my current high school, started listening to my parents and teachers more, and became who I am today. It is still a struggle to deal with mental health. Social anxiety especially is a problem for me, but now I find I can present at the front of the classroom, talk to random people, and not obsess over conversations. I find my mental health to be crucial to who I am and what I believe I can do, as I do not want to ever go back to the deep dark thoughts and mindsets that I had at age 12 or even at age 14. Treating myself well and nurturing my mental health was a catalyst that allowed me to find and welcome the opportunities that came my way, including getting an Associate Degree in high school and taking the classes that resonated with me. Now that wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for my mother. She had been on her own journey of mental health and wellness for many years, imparting her wisdom and all the things she learned onto me. I started doing yoga during covid, beginning by connecting my mental health with my physical health, and soon after started doing meditation. I found so many mindsets and beliefs that held me back, with negative thoughts about myself and who I am, and started changing it and myself to a more positive approach. Since then, my sleep has improved, my slumps of energy has lessened, and although I am still and may always be on a journey of improvement, I know who I am and how I want to be in life. And that is not to be depressed and have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, but it is to live life to the fullest and do what I want to do instead of what the dark parts of my brain or the people around me tell me to do. Thank you for reading.

From an early age, art was my escape and a way to express myself. Growing up in a household where creativity was encouraged, I spent countless hours sewing, making origami, and creating with paint and glitter.). Since I had limited access to other forms of entertainment (really, to PBS kids and video games) I had to find other ways to keep myself entertained. My aunt, a very creative person, encouraged me along with my parents to experiment with all forms of art and media. As I got older, my art and my passions became more focused – I enrolled in sketching in middle school and art in the beginning of high school, finding the styles and mediums I enjoyed. My sophomore year of high school, I decided to enroll in graphic design and video production, discovering the ways of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro. That year was the beginning of something huge for me. I found another way to express myself (without the cleanup) artistically, becoming a big deal when the dog I grew up with passed away and I made art of her to honor her memory. But I also discovered the world of design – how it is in every business, every website, every social media, every corner of the internet good and bad. Because of that I found many uses for my art and design and have helped many in my family and in my community create and use imagery for whatever they needed. I am now in my senior year of high school and have taken 3 years of graphic design. I have well and truly immersed myself in it, having made everything from brochures to pet portraits to full on branding guides, having infinite ways to express myself and help others do the same. I cannot think of many other mediums that truly encompass as much or are as expressive as graphic design is to me, as I will never even get close to discovering all graphic design has to offer. I have no doubt that I will bring graphic design everywhere. I see it every time I look at the world. It is now an integral part of me, and I don’t think I could leave it behind even if I wanted to. This is the truest passion I have ever had, and it is more than a hobby or a career path – it is its own mindset, its own way of looking at the world. And I am so thankful to have had this opportunity to embrace it and learn how to make it my own. Thank you for reading.

I cannot begin to tell you how books have impacted and shaped my life. And although that sounds both cheesy and cliché, I have no other way to express my love and gratitude for books. The earliest memory I have from reading books was in either 2nd or 3rd grade, when I wanted to watch the Harry Potter movies (for about the 12th) time. My mother refused, telling me I had to read the books first. And although I was slightly annoyed at the delay, I went on to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and promptly finished it that night. Since then, I devoured many different books, starting with the Divergent and Hunger Games series, and moving on to the more complex Ready Player One and Cloud Atlas. In the last few years, I have read over 100 books annually, primarily fiction, using it as an escape from any and all stresses in my life. As what I read became more and more complex, I began to realize many things about life, noticing the errors in many people's ways as I read more, beginning to contemplate more about what is going on in my mind as well as others. There is no single book that I learned many life lessons from, but collectively, fiction has taught me what healthy relationships look like, and many examples of unhealthy relationships to avoid. I have learned how flawed we all are, and how much we can truly be terrible at listening to ourselves and other people. While the psychology of the people in books has been discussed in some length in classrooms, I took it a step further and analyzed the steps they took, the relationships they had, the mistakes they made, and I learned from them. All of that has truly shaped who I am today. Sometimes I say and think certain things and I wonder "oh, what book did that come from?" My love for reading has even led me to volunteer at my local library, where I have been happily going every week for the last 2 years. It has shaped not only the way I think but also my desires for the future, as I have found that the drama, the complexity and stresses of the characters in the books is not something I want for me nor my family. Because of books, I have found psychology as a viable career path, I have goals of becoming even more involved in my library, and I have a vision for a life of balance and happiness—my own "happily ever after," if you will—full of even more books.

Travel isn't just about ticking off destinations on a bucket list; it's about embarking on a journey that changes you from the inside out. Each trip has the power to transform us in profound ways, opening our eyes to the beauty of diversity and the richness of human connection. One of the most magical aspects of travel is the people you meet along the way. From striking up conversations with locals in bustling markets to sharing laughter with fellow travelers over a shared meal, these interactions have a way of leaving an indelible mark on your heart. It's in these moments of connection that friendships are forged, transcending language barriers and cultural differences. Through these relationships, you gain a deeper understanding of humanity and yourself. And let's not forget about the food! Every bite tells a story, revealing the essence of a culture and its people. Whether you're sampling street food in Bangkok or learning to make pasta from scratch in Italy, each culinary adventure is a journey in itself. These experiences not only tantalize your taste buds but also broaden your culinary horizons, teaching you to appreciate the flavors of the world with newfound gusto. Living in a different environment is like stepping into a parallel universe where everything feels both familiar and alien at the same time. It's in these moments of discomfort and uncertainty that you truly discover what you're made of. Adapting to new customs, navigating foreign streets, and grappling with language barriers forces you to confront your fears and insecurities head-on. But with each challenge overcome, you emerge stronger, more resilient, and more confident in your ability to navigate the unknown. Perhaps the most transformative aspect of travel is the shift in perspective it brings. As you wander through ancient ruins, gaze upon breathtaking landscapes, and immerse yourself in unfamiliar customs, you begin to see the world through a different lens. Your once-narrow worldview expands, replaced by a newfound appreciation for the vast tapestry of human experience. You realize that there is no one "right" way to live life and that diversity is not only something to be celebrated but cherished. In the end, travel is so much more than just a series of destinations; it's a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. It's about stepping out of your comfort zone, embracing the unknown, and allowing yourself to be transformed by the beauty and wonder of the world. So go ahead, pack your bags, and let the adventure begin. After all, the greatest journey of all is the one that leads you back to yourself.

Embarking on the quest to understand the universe goes beyond just exploring space; it's a journey that connects with our understanding of ourselves, relationships with others, and our role in the world. Rooted in understanding our thoughts and feelings, guided by numbers, and fascinated by the wonders of the stars, our exploration also branches into the study of living things and our impact on the environment. This holistic approach paints a fuller picture of our place in the universe and how we, as a community, can grow and improve. In psychology, which looks at how our minds work, we find a mirror reflecting our own nature. As we learn about the universe, we also discover more about ourselves. How we connect with others, shaped by what we think about the universe, influences our shared view of the world. This connection between cosmic exploration and human relationships is like a dance, showing how they influence each other. Emotional connections to the beauty of the cosmos go beyond just knowing facts; they make our emotions stronger and give more meaning to our lives. Mathematics is like a universal language that helps us understand the universe's mysteries. From figuring out how planets move to describing space, math gives us the tools to make sense of it all. Mathematics isn't just for understanding the cosmos; it's a handy tool in our daily lives. It helps us solve problems and make decisions. The logical thinking we get from math isn't just for unlocking the secrets of the stars; it's also a guide for navigating life's challenges. Astronomy, which looks at the stars and planets, offers a big-picture view of the universe. Looking at galaxies far away and understanding how stars live and die gives us a broad understanding of space. In everyday life, astronomy isn't just about stars and planets; it's like a guiding light. It helps us see the world from a wider perspective. The wonders we find in the cosmos go beyond science; they inspire a sense of wonder that makes our lives richer. Branching into the study of living things, biology explores life on Earth. It shows how we work, not just mentally but also as living organisms. The study of the universe is like looking at life under a microscope, from the tiniest details to the biggest picture. Understanding the universe connects with understanding our own biology. Exploring the cosmos is like exploring the mechanisms of life on Earth. The similarities between the cosmos and life at different levels show how everything is connected. Biology acts like a bridge, linking the study of the universe to the study of life on our planet. Environmental science helps us see how we fit into the bigger picture of the world. It looks at how ecosystems work, how we interact with our surroundings, and how we can either help or harm the environment. Our exploration isn't just about space; it's also about our planet's delicate balance. Environmental science helps us understand how everything on Earth is connected. It shows us that human activities, like pollution, can upset this balance. This makes us realize the importance of taking care of our planet for the future. All these sciences—psychology, mathematics, astronomy, biology, and environmental science—form a connected web of knowledge. The dance between psychology and astronomy, the common language of math that links different fields, the similarities between cosmic exploration and the study of living things—all highlight how our search for knowledge is like a team effort. Understanding the universe isn't just about gathering facts; it's about how these facts influence our everyday lives. From making us emotionally stronger to helping us solve problems, from decoding cosmic mysteries to learning about life on Earth, these sciences work together to improve the human race. In conclusion, our exploration of the universe isn't just a scientific journey—it's a shared adventure that brings together different sciences. Grounded in self-awareness, guided by numbers, and inspired by the wonders of the stars, this journey extends into the study of life and our planet's well-being. As we unlock cosmic mysteries, understand mathematical formulas, explore life's intricacies, and strive for environmental sustainability, we move closer to a future where knowledge isn't just a tool for discovery but a guide for the well-being of all of us.

The world around me is like a giant canvas for my art. Nature is my main inspiration - the blues of the sky, the greens of the trees, and the warm glow of the sun, like a colorful symphony that sparks my creativity. Living near Lake Tahoe in the Nevada desert, I am inspired by nature’s captivating aspects. The blues of the lake, the russet mountains, and the warm desert hues that collectively create a compelling palette that inspires me every time I walk outside. Movies and ads also play a big role. Ad colors and designs shape my perception, and visually stunning movies transport me to diverse realms. Old Disney animations trigger a nostalgic magic in my art. But it's not just about what I see; it's also about the people and animals in my life. My current dog, always playful, and my old dog, who's left her mark on my heart, are my muses. Their personalities and the memories we've shared become stories in my art. A wagging tail or the look in their eyes adds a personal touch to my creations. Volunteering with animals, like at the library, is another layer of inspiration. Each creature has its quirks and tales. Whether it's the curiosity of a cat or the resilience of a therapy dog, these moments find their way into my art. It's not just about colors and visuals; it's about the emotions and connections that make life colorful. In a nutshell, my art is a mix of the vibrant and bright, the muted and subtle, inspired by the world around me, the magic of media, and the stories of the people and animals I hold dear. It's my way of capturing not just the colors but also the feelings that make life an ever-evolving masterpiece.
