Bio

My passion for helping others succeed in life comes from my own personal experiences. Growing up, my eldest sister, who has autism and is non-verbal, taught me the importance of patience, compassion, and understanding. From a young age, I learned how meaningful it can be to support someone in reaching their potential, even when the world presents challenges. These early experiences shaped my decision to pursue a career in occupational therapy. I believe occupational therapy is not just about treatment; it is about meeting people where they are, honoring their individuality, and walking with them as they grow. My goal is to become a traveling practitioner, supporting people of all ages through different stages of life. Whether it’s helping a child develop independence, assisting an adult in regaining confidence after an injury, or empowering an older adult to continue living a full life, I want to be part of their journey. What motivates me most is the reminder that this is everyone’s first time living. We are all learning as we go, and I want to be someone who makes that journey a little easier, a little brighter, and full of possibility. Receiving this scholarship would provide me with the opportunity to continue developing the skills necessary to support others in creating meaningful, independent lives.

My journey through the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Panola College has been one of growth, commitment, and purpose. As a current student, I balance academic responsibilities, leadership opportunities, and personal obligations while commuting nearly 80 miles round-trip to campus each time classes are held. While the drive demands time, energy, and financial resources, it is a commitment I willingly make because of the career I am pursuing and the impact I aspire to have on the lives of others. One of the most influential parts of my life has been growing up with my eldest sister, who has autism and is non-verbal. From an early age, I’ve learned how to communicate in ways that go beyond words, how to be patient, and how to support her in navigating the world. These experiences planted the seed for my passion for occupational therapy and gave me an early understanding of how meaningful it is to help someone gain independence, confidence, and dignity in their daily life. My family circumstances have also influenced my educational journey. I live with my parents, my two sisters, and our dog Rigby. My youngest sister is pursuing higher education in the medical field, and her drive inspires me to remain focused on my own goals. Living in a household filled with kindness, supportiveness, and personal growth through personal experiences has shaped me into a motivated and determined individual. My parents have always supported my decisions, which has given me the confidence to pursue my goals wholeheartedly. Still, I have faced challenges along the way. I often find myself eager to take on too many responsibilities at once, which has taught me the importance of balance and time management. Through this program, I am learning not only clinical skills but also how to prioritize and distribute my energy so I can serve others effectively. My role as the president of the Student Occupational Therapy Association Club has been another key part of my growth. In this role, I have had the privilege of leading peers in promoting community wellness initiatives in Carthage, Texas. This experience has deepened my belief that occupational therapy is not just about working with individuals; it is also about supporting entire communities in living healthier and more meaningful lives. Through SOTA, I have strengthened my leadership skills, learned how to collaborate effectively, and discovered the joy of advocating for occupational therapy within the broader community. Financially, the demands of commuting 80 miles daily have been significant. Reliable transportation is essential for me to succeed in both my academic coursework and fieldwork placements. This scholarship would greatly reduce the financial strain of travel expenses and vehicle maintenance, ensuring that I can remain consistent and dependable in attending classes and fieldwork. It would allow me to focus more fully on developing into a skilled and compassionate OTA rather than worrying about how I will cover the costs of the journey. I am also currently pursuing my BAAS in Health Occupations at the University of Texas at Tyler to further my education and strengthen my future in the occupational therapy world. Continuing my studies at UT Tyler is an important step toward expanding my knowledge and preparing myself for future opportunities in this field. I believe education is a lifelong journey, and I am committed to pursuing every opportunity that will make me a stronger practitioner and advocate for my future clients. What motivates me most to continue pursuing a career in occupational therapy is the belief that this is everyone’s first time living. Life is full of challenges, uncertainties, and new experiences, and no one should have to face them alone. As a future practitioner, I want to walk alongside individuals of all ages and abilities, empowering them to succeed in their daily lives, no matter what obstacles they face. My ultimate goal is to become a traveling practitioner so I can serve diverse populations. I want to live a successful and meaningful life, not only for myself but also so that I can be a reliable source of support for others during times of uncertainty. This scholarship represents more than financial assistance, it represents an investment in my growth as a professional who is dedicated to improving the quality of life for others. I am committed to this journey, and I am eager to continue building the knowledge, skills, and compassion needed to make a difference in the lives of those I serve. Student ID # 330620
