Bio

After moving to the United States, I was finally able to pursue a lifelong calling: working in healthcare, something I was unable to do in my home country. I am enrolled in the Associate’s Degree in Nursing at FVI School of Nursing and Technology. Passionate about patient care and personal growth, I plan to become a travel nurse to gain diverse clinical experiences across the country. My long-term goal is to earn a master’s degree and become a nurse practitioner, expanding my ability to care for patients at a more advanced level. I am also interested in healthcare ethics, advocacy, and how policies can support better outcomes for both patients and professionals. Multilingual and adaptable, I thrive in dynamic environments and am committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others through compassionate, culturally sensitive care.

      Mark A. Jefferson Teaching Scholarship
I am currently a nursing student with a strong desire to serve others and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. My journey into healthcare began with a passion for understanding the human experience, especially during moments of vulnerability. As someone who values empathy, education, and advocacy, I believe nursing is more than a profession—it’s a calling. Although I am not pursuing a traditional teaching degree, I see myself as an educator in many ways. Nurses are often the bridge between medical knowledge and patient understanding. Every interaction is an opportunity to teach, whether it's explaining a new medication, helping a family understand a diagnosis, or empowering a patient to manage a chronic condition. I plan to use my role to educate patients with compassion and clarity, especially those from underserved communities who may not have access to reliable health information. As an immigrant, I understand how culture, language, and fear can create barriers to healthcare. That experience fuels my commitment to becoming a culturally sensitive nurse who advocates for health equity. I want to use my multilingual abilities and diverse background to connect with patients from different walks of life, making them feel seen, heard, and understood. I also hope to work in community health, where I can provide preventive care and education to families who may not otherwise receive it. In the long term, I aspire to become a nurse educator or mentor to future nursing students. I want to support others the way I’ve been supported, especially those who may be first-generation college students or navigating school in a new language. Education transforms lives, and I want to be part of that transformation not only at the bedside but also in classrooms and training programs. Receiving this scholarship would not only help me financially—it would reinforce my belief that I am on the right path. It would remind me that my efforts matter and that there are people and institutions that believe in the power of education, compassion, and service. Through nursing, I plan to be a source of light and strength during people’s most difficult times. I want to be the kind of nurse who not only provides excellent care but also inspires others—patients, families, and fellow healthcare workers—to believe in healing, growth, and kindness. That, to me, is the essence of being an educator: lifting others up, one person at a time. thank you so much.
