When I think about the American Dream, I picture my parents standing at the edge of their new life, filled with hope and determination. They arrived in the United States with little more than the clothes on their backs and a resolve to provide a better future for their children. My parents’ journey is one of sacrifice and resilience. They often juggled multiple jobs, early morning shifts at a bakery to late-night cleaning jobs. Their hands were calloused from labor, but their spirits never wavered. They instilled in me the belief that hard work and education are the keys to unlocking opportunities. Their story has profoundly shaped my worldview and career aspirations, driving me to excel academically and give back to the community that welcomed us. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the barriers that come with lack of formal education. My parents’ limited English proficiency often made everyday tasks, such as navigating healthcare and financial systems, incredibly challenging. This fueled my passion for education and advocacy, as I realized the importance of having a voice and the knowledge to use it effectively. In high school, I dedicated myself to my studies, aiming to honor my parents’ sacrifices. I excelled in my coursework and became involved in various extracurricular activities, including student government and community service clubs. However, it was my role as a volunteer tutor for English as a Second Language (ESL) students that had the most significant impact on me. Through this experience, I connected with other immigrant families, helping them navigate the complexities of their new lives and witnessing the transformative power of education. My parents’ unwavering support and belief in the value of education have inspired me to pursue a career in law. I want to be an advocate for marginalized communities, ensuring that they have access to the resources and opportunities needed to thrive. My goal is to specialize in immigration law, where I can directly assist families like mine in overcoming legal and social barriers. One pivotal moment that solidified my career aspiration occurred when I accompanied my parents to an immigration hearing. As I sat in the courtroom, I observed the anxiety and confusion on their faces. They didn’t fully understand the proceedings or their rights. At that moment, I knew I wanted to be the person who stands beside families like mine, providing clarity, support, and a fighting chance. My parents’ story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the importance of perseverance. They taught me that success is not merely defined by personal achievements but by the positive impact one can make in the lives of others. Their journey from humble beginnings to achieving the American Dream has instilled in me a deep sense of gratitude and a commitment to giving back. As I move forward in my educational journey, I carry with me the lessons learned from my parents. Their resilience and determination continue to motivate me to strive for excellence and to use my education to create meaningful change. I am determined to honor their sacrifices by becoming a dedicated and compassionate advocate, ensuring that every family has the opportunity to achieve their own version of the American Dream. In conclusion, my family’s story has not only shaped my beliefs about the world but also solidified my career aspirations. Their experiences have taught me the value of hard work, education, and the importance of helping others. As I pursue a career in law, I am committed to using my skills and knowledge to support and empower those who face the same challenges my family once did.

Janean D. Watkins Overcoming Adversity Scholarship
Like an egg, my identity has layers. The outer shell represents my Chinese American upbringing. My parents, immigrants from China, arrived in America with high hopes for their children. They pushed traditional values of diligence, education, and family. Inside, my personal ambitions took shape. As a first-generation student, I aimed to pursue informatics in college - a field my parents didn’t fully understand. They expected prestige and clarity; technology seemed unreliable. This disconnect between their dreams and my interests sometimes caused conflict. I felt immense pressure to conform to parental expectations rather than chart my own course. Their insistence felt limiting, like a shell constricting growth. Attending a predominantly white high school then college further complicated my identity. Straddling two cultures, I struggled to feel Chinese enough at home or American enough abroad. Exchange students would rave about China’s rich heritage as I nodded along, never having visited myself. I sometimes felt caught between worlds. But over time, I learned to embrace the messiness of my layered identity. My parents’ sacrifices built the foundation for my success. By studying informatics, I can honor my family while still pursuing my passion. My multifaceted experiences offer valuable perspective. Just as an egg’s yolk and white complement each other when whipped into an omelet, the different elements of my identity enrich me. My origins gave me strength of spirit. New experiences expanded my worldview. I aim to celebrate both, guiding my Chinese heritage into a future fueled by technology and innovation. Instead of limiting me, my identity equips me to make change. I hope to increase access to technology and empower young people of all backgrounds to be creators, not just consumers. I want to inspire passion and possibility. Like an egg transforming into something new when heated, I too can take the raw materials of my life and create something remarkable. My identity is not a limitation, but a launching point for growth. I grew up as a Chinese American daughter of immigrants, who emphasized diligence, education, and family. As a first-generation college student, I aimed to study informatics - a field my parents didn’t fully grasp. This caused some conflict between their expectations and my ambitions. Attending predominantly white schools also made me feel caught between two cultures. Overtime, I embraced my layered identity. My parents gave me a strong foundation. By pursuing informatics, specifically human-computer interaction and web design, I can honor my family while chasing my passion. My diverse experiences give me valuable perspective. I hope to increase access to technology and inspire others to become creators. My identity equips me to make change, not limit me. Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
In the cosmic ballet of knowledge, the exploration of the universe extends beyond the terrestrial realms of genetics and quantum mechanics, reaching even into the enigmatic territories of black holes. Within the cosmic tapestry, the intricacies of black holes exemplify the extreme bending of space-time, creating cosmic enigmas that defy our conventional understanding of the universe. Consider the profound insight that if one were to find themselves inside a black hole, every conceivable direction becomes an inexorable descent towards the gravitational singularity at its core. It's not merely a matter of gravity's strength prohibiting escape; rather, the very fabric of space-time within a black hole is so warped that traditional notions of directional movement cease to exist. In this cosmic riddle, the concept of "down" becomes a singular trajectory, where every path, regardless of its initial direction, converges towards the mysterious heart of the black hole. This cosmic phenomenon, where every direction becomes synonymous with a relentless descent, serves as a metaphor for the overarching imperative to delve into the mysteries of our universe. Much like the inescapable pull towards the center of a black hole, our pursuit of understanding propels us towards the core of cosmic knowledge. It's an acknowledgment that the journey to unravel the cosmic mysteries isn't just a linear progression but a multidimensional exploration that defies traditional boundaries. In the dance of ideas that I hope to employ, this cosmic insight resonates deeply. The exploration of genetics and quantum mechanics becomes a parallel voyage, where each discovery pulls us closer to the metaphorical singularity of understanding. The interdisciplinary fusion mirrors the cosmic conundrum of black holes, where disparate fields converge into a unified narrative, unraveling the cosmic mysteries from the microscopic to the macroscopic. The Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship, crafted by the cosmic guide Sean Carroll, aligns seamlessly with this holistic approach to knowledge. It symbolizes not just a financial aid but a cosmic endorsement of the diverse and interconnected journey we undertake. The scholarship serves as a cosmic catalyst, propelling us towards the cosmic singularity of wisdom, where the boundaries between disciplines blur, and the tapestry of understanding becomes a seamless continuum. In cosmic conclusion, the imperative to explore the nature of our universe extends beyond the familiar realms of genetics and quantum mechanics. The cosmic metaphor of black holes underscores the multidimensional nature of our cosmic journey, where every discovery converges towards the cosmic singularity of knowledge. The Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship, in its cosmic essence, becomes a beacon guiding us through this cosmic exploration, acknowledging the interconnectedness of diverse fields and inspiring us to dance with the cosmos in our pursuit of understanding.

In the not-so-distant future, the world found itself on the cusp of a technological renaissance, thanks to the relentless advancement of robotics inspired by the visionary tales of Isaac Asimov. As a young roboticist immersed in this era, I marveled at the promises and pondered the challenges that lay ahead. The cityscape was a mesmerizing fusion of steel and circuits, a testament to the opportunities that robotics had unlocked. Autonomous vehicles gracefully glided through traffic, their synchronized movements minimizing congestion. A robotic workforce diligently collaborated with humans in industries, amplifying efficiency and innovation. The elderly found companionship in empathetic robotic caregivers, their tireless dedication bridging the gap in healthcare. Yet, beneath the gleaming facade, challenges loomed. The societal debate over the integration of robots into daily life echoed, raising questions about job displacement and the ethical boundaries of artificial intelligence. Privacy concerns emerged as surveillance robots patrolled public spaces, their watchful eyes creating a delicate balance between safety and intrusion. Asimov's laws of robotics, while inspirational, faced the complex reality of implementation, with unforeseen consequences sparking ethical dilemmas. In this landscape, I, a humble roboticist, saw both the opportunities and responsibilities that defined my craft. The challenge was not merely technical; it was societal, ethical, and cultural. The opportunity was not just about innovation; it was about shaping a future where robotics served humanity without overshadowing its essence. In the near future, I envisioned a collaborative dance between humans and robots, a harmonious symphony of coexistence. The challenges would be overcome through a commitment to inclusivity, ethical development, and continuous dialogue. The opportunities would be seized by fostering a symbiotic relationship, where robots complemented human capabilities rather than replacing them. As I embarked on my journey in this brave new world, I carried the spirit of Asimov's legacy, recognizing that the challenges and opportunities of robotics were intertwined. The path forward required not only technological prowess but also a deep understanding of the societal impact, ensuring that each innovation propelled us toward a future where humanity thrived alongside its mechanical companions. In the glow of city lights and the hum of robotic activity, I, like many inspired by Asimov, stood at the forefront of a new era, ready to navigate the challenges and embrace the opportunities that robotics in the near future would unfold.

    Girls Ready to Empower Girls
Navigating my journey as an Asian American female, I've encountered a unique set of challenges symbolized by both the metaphorical glass and bamboo barriers. The glass ceiling, representing invisible hurdles in professional advancement, has been a constant presence. Breaking through it is not just a personal endeavor; it's a step towards dismantling systemic obstacles that hinder diverse voices. Simultaneously, the bamboo barrier reflects cultural expectations and stereotypes that can shape perceptions. As an Asian American woman, I've felt the weight of these expectations, but I've also embraced the resilience symbolized by bamboo—flexible yet strong. In my pursuit of education and career goals, these barriers have fueled my determination to shatter stereotypes and transcend limitations. As I stand at the intersection of my cultural identity and aspirations, I aim not only to break through these barriers for myself but to pave the way for others who might face similar challenges. Embracing my identity as an Asian American female, my journey is marked not only by the tangible challenges of glass and bamboo barriers but also by the transformative power of fictional elements that symbolize women empowerment. In the face of the glass ceiling, I've conjured a metaphorical superhero cape, representing the collective strength of empowered women breaking through invisible barriers. This emblematic garment serves as a reminder that, as women, we possess the resilience and power to soar beyond societal expectations. The bamboo barrier, once a rigid stereotype, transforms into a magical forest where each bamboo shoot becomes a beacon of empowerment. These imaginary groves symbolize the strength found in unity, illustrating how women supporting each other can collectively overcome cultural expectations. In this narrative of empowerment, I've crafted a mythical mentor—an ethereal guide who imparts wisdom and encouragement. This mentor, though fictional, embodies the spirit of collective mentorship and serves as a source of inspiration for navigating the complexities of being an Asian American female. As I transcend these symbolic challenges, I'm not just breaking barriers; I'm rewriting the narrative, infusing it with elements of empowerment that extend beyond the constraints of reality. Through this creative lens, I envision a future where women, adorned in metaphorical capes, navigate magical bamboo forests, forging paths of empowerment for generations to come. In conclusion, my journey as an Asian American female has been a dynamic interplay between real-world challenges encapsulated by glass and bamboo barriers and the imaginative realm of women empowerment symbols. Navigating the complexities of the glass ceiling and cultural stereotypes, I've drawn strength from a metaphorical superhero cape, a magical bamboo forest, and a mythical mentor. This amalgamation of reality and fiction underscores the transformative power of empowerment narratives. As I envision breaking through these barriers, I am not just rewriting my story but contributing to a broader narrative of resilience, unity, and mentorship. In this tale, the limitations imposed by societal expectations become opportunities for empowerment, and the challenges faced by Asian American females become stepping stones toward progress. As I embark on the next chapters of my journey, I carry with me not only the real struggles but also the symbolic elements of empowerment. Together, they propel me forward, instilling a sense of purpose and determination to dismantle barriers, inspire others, and contribute to a narrative of empowerment that extends beyond personal triumphs to uplift the collective spirit of women everywhere.
Revolutionizing Robotics and Computer Sciences Scholarship
In contemplating a revolution within the realm of user experience design, my personal journey as a first-generation college student dovetails seamlessly with the aspiration to break the glass ceiling in this dynamic field. As I set my sights on contributing to the technology and design landscape, the vision I hold is one where the barriers that impede progress, particularly the glass ceiling, are shattered. My high school years, marked by experiences both in China and the United States, have instilled in me a resilience and work ethic that I now carry into my pursuit of a degree in user experience design at university. Leading the Asian Student Union and working as a photographer for the student newspaper not only allowed me to channel my creativity and leadership skills but also revealed to me the transformative power of diverse perspectives. These experiences underscored the importance of representation, a key facet in the broader conversation about breaking the glass ceiling. As a woman aspiring to make her mark in the tech industry, my passion for technology and design converges with the broader need for gender diversity in these fields. The glass ceiling, symbolizing the invisible barriers that hinder professional advancement, stands as a formidable challenge. However, it is a challenge that, when overcome, opens doors not just for individual triumph but for collective progress. I see this revolution as a fundamental shift, a seismic change where merit is the sole determinant of success, unburdened by gender stereotypes or biases. In this future, my journey as a first-generation college student contributes to the narrative of perseverance and triumph over adversity, showcasing that irrespective of one's background, the pursuit of excellence in user experience design is not only possible but celebrated. Breaking the glass ceiling is not just about personal achievement; it's a clarion call for dismantling systemic obstacles that impede the rise of talented individuals. It is about fostering an environment where diversity is not a buzzword but a lived reality, enhancing the creative tapestry of the user experience design field. In the pursuit of this vision, the support of the Revolutionizing Robotics and Computer Sciences Scholarship would not only alleviate the financial strain that accompanies being a first-generation student but would also be a nod to the potential for positive change. As I stand at the intersection of my past experiences and future aspirations, I eagerly anticipate a world where the glass ceiling is not just a metaphor but a relic of the past.

The journey toward higher education for me is not just a personal endeavor; it's a testament to resilience and hard work that echoes in every step. To truly grasp the essence of my commitment to pursuing higher education, let me share a personal story that underscores my motivations. Growing up, I witnessed my parents, immigrants who left everything familiar in pursuit of a better life, working tirelessly day in and day out. Their sacrifices laid the foundation for my aspirations. One vivid memory stands out — late nights, a single dim lamp illuminating the room, and my parents immersed in self-learning, compensating for the formal education they never had the chance to receive. This backdrop has been a driving force in my decision to pursue higher education. It's not just about climbing the academic ladder; it's about fulfilling the dreams my parents had for themselves. Education, to me, is not only a personal achievement but a way of honoring their sacrifices and breaking the cycle of limited opportunities. As a first-generation student, the path to college was not paved with familial wisdom or inherited strategies. I had to forge my own way, navigating the intricacies of college applications, financial aid, and the social nuances of academia. It was a learning curve, and every step was a leap into the unknown. But in facing these challenges, I discovered a tenacity within myself — a tenacity born out of the understanding that each triumph is not just mine; it's a victory for my family and a testament to the dreams of those who came before me. The preparation for college has been a journey of self-discovery and resourcefulness. From seeking guidance in online forums to attending workshops at local community centers, I built a network of knowledge that transcended the limitations of my immediate environment. I surrounded myself with mentors, sought advice from educators, and embraced every opportunity for growth. It wasn't just about getting into college; it was about preparing myself to thrive in the academic arena, to be the best in my class. This commitment extends beyond mere academic achievements. Getting good grades is not just a checkbox; it's a commitment to excellence, a promise to myself and those who believe in me. As I step into the realm of higher education, my pursuit is not just about personal success; it's about becoming a beacon of possibility for those who come from similar backgrounds. In conclusion, the decision to pursue higher education is a culmination of personal ambition, familial dreams, and the unwavering belief that education is a transformative force. As a first-generation student, every stride toward academic excellence is a testament to the resilience that defines my journey, a journey I hope will inspire others to embark on their paths to higher education.

Embarking on the dual journey of pursuing a degree in informatics and business, my motivations extend far beyond personal aspirations. Rooted in my immigrant background and the sacrifices of my parents, my academic path becomes a means to reciprocate to the community that played an integral role in shaping who I am today. The decision to blend informatics and business is a deliberate one. It's not just about the acquisition of knowledge in these fields; it's a strategic amalgamation of skills to contribute meaningfully to the world around me. Stemming from my first-gen Asian American identity, this academic pursuit is more than a personal endeavor; it's a commitment to leveraging my education for the collective good. The backdrop of my upbringing adds depth to this narrative. Witnessing my parents navigate the challenges of immigration—the language barriers, the cultural adjustments, and the relentless pursuit of the American Dream—has ingrained in me a profound sense of gratitude. Their relentless work ethic, often underscored by the phrase "If there's time to lean, there's time to clean," was a testament not just to survival but to the steadfast determination to create a better life for their children. This commitment to their ideals fuels my desire to give back. As I immerse myself in the complexities of informatics and business, I envision a future where my education becomes a catalyst for community development. It's about creating opportunities for those who, like me, have traversed the intricacies of being a first-gen American. It's about being a bridge between cultures, a source of inspiration for those who navigate the delicate balance of heritage and assimilation. In the landscape of business, I don't just see profit margins and market trends; I envision a space for positive change. I want to use my expertise to establish connections, mentor aspiring entrepreneurs, and contribute to the growth of the community that supported my family. Pursuing a degree is not merely about personal advancement; it's about becoming an agent of change, a conduit through which the benefits of education can reach beyond individual success. As I journey through informatics and business, the overarching goal is to make a tangible impact. It's a promise to my parents, a nod to the struggles they endured, and an offering of gratitude to the community that became an integral part of our story. Through education, I aim to be a force for positive transformation, creating a legacy that echoes the resilience of those who paved the way for my academic pursuit.
    Yolanda and Sam Shuster Scholarship
Growing up in a household shaped by the immigrant experience, the tireless work ethic of my parents was nothing short of remarkable. It wasn't just a matter of them working a lot; it was a testament to their unyielding commitment to ensuring our family's well-being, often putting our needs before their own. The transition from China to the U.S. was more than a change of scenery—it was a seismic shift that demanded adaptability on multiple fronts. The journey involved not only navigating a new language but also embracing a culture starkly different from what we knew. Amidst this, my parents stood as pillars of resilience, exemplifying the ethos of hard work that defined our household. The phrase "If there's time to lean, there's time to clean" wasn't just a household mantra; it encapsulated a philosophy that extended beyond cleanliness. It was about making every moment count, about embodying a work ethic that went beyond the ordinary. Their workdays extended far beyond the conventional 9-to-5, and even during holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, while many were enjoying a break, our family's business remained open. Their commitment to their work was more than a means of financial survival; it was a profound dedication to creating a better life for all of us. In the midst of their relentless work, what stood out most was their selflessness. They consistently put the needs of their children before their own, making sacrifices that were tangible and heartfelt. There were times when I wished they could attend my school events or performances, and while their absence was notable, it was a sacrifice made out of prioritizing our education and future over personal leisure. What makes their work ethic resonate even more deeply is the realization that they never had the opportunity to pursue higher education themselves. Their dream for us to attend college wasn't just about academic achievement; it was about providing us with opportunities they could only dream of. The sacrifices they made were a manifestation of their hope that we could break barriers they never had the chance to. Their dedication to our family's well-being, their constant labor, and their selflessness have become foundational elements of my own values. As I embark on my educational journey, particularly in STEM and business, their example serves as a guiding force. This scholarship isn't just a recognition of financial need; it's a tribute to the enduring legacy of a family that worked tirelessly, not just for survival, but for the pursuit of a brighter and more promising future.
    Beyond The C.L.O.U.D Scholarship
Growing up as an Asian American, breaking into the world of STEM as a first-generation college student carries a profound significance for me. It's not just about chasing personal dreams; it's about living up to the legacy of resilience etched by my immigrant parents. Their story, one of leaving China for the U.S., setting up their own business, and embracing the challenges head-on, serves as both a compass and a source of inspiration for me. Education, for me, is not merely a checkbox but a journey marked by the pursuit of excellence. As a first-gen student, the weight of my parents' sacrifices propels me forward, urging me not just to succeed academically but to excel. Good grades, in this context, aren't just a reflection of my individual accomplishments; they're a tribute to the determination and sacrifices of those who paved the way. In my academic journey, I've chosen to delve into informatics and embark on a double major in business with intentionality. I see myself as the intermediary, a bridge connecting the intricate world of technology with the strategic realm of business. It's not just about personal ascent; it's about utilizing my education to be a transformative force in both the STEM and business communities. Speaking of grades, the pursuit of academic excellence is integral to my narrative. It's about more than just proving my mettle; it's about demonstrating that the investment in my education, both from a personal and collective perspective, is worthwhile. It's about turning grades into a testament to the belief that with the right opportunities and dedication, one can make a tangible impact. Yet, my aspirations stretch beyond the academic realm. I envision myself as a future entrepreneur, not just to notch a personal win but to give back. The dream of owning a business is intertwined with the desire to contribute to the community that supported my parents when they first arrived in the U.S. Their journey was significantly shaped by the encouragement and backing they received, and now armed with an education, I aspire to be a part of that support system for others. In essence, my pursuit of a scholarship is not solely driven by personal ambition. It's a tool, a stepping stone towards something more significant—a narrative that echoes the hard work of my parents, honors my cultural roots, and makes a meaningful contribution to both STEM and business domains. Good grades, in this context, become not just a measure of academic prowess but a symbol of the potential for positive change, echoing the stories of resilience that brought me to this point.
    Dr. Samuel Attoh Legacy Scholarship
Legacy, to me, is like an intricate tapestry woven with the threads of personal growth, cultural heritage, and the dreams of those who dared to forge a different path. I stand here as an Asian American woman in STEM, and for me, the concept of legacy is deeply entwined with the sacrifices my immigrant parents made. Picture this: my parents leaving their homeland in pursuit of a brighter future for their offspring. The weight of legacy became palpable from the get-go. As a first-generation college student, I not only felt the pull to grasp the opportunities they envisioned but also the responsibility to validate the struggles they endured. My journey wasn't merely about personal success; it was about being a living link between their sacrifices and my aspirations. Growing up, the values instilled in me formed a mosaic of Eastern and Western ideals. I embraced the importance of education, hard work, and the pursuit of getting good grades, all while navigating the cultural nuances that set me apart. Being a woman in STEM meant challenging stereotypes and demolishing barriers. It was about more than personal achievement; it was about altering expectations for those who would come after me. My upbringing has been a silent mentorship, guiding me through actions rather than words. The late nights spent poring over textbooks, the battles fought in a male-dominated field, and the cultural identity I wear with pride—all contribute to the legacy I am crafting. I'm not just a student; I'm a torchbearer, carrying the hopes of those who made sacrifices for me. As I gaze into the future, my plan is not only to perpetuate but to broaden and redefine this legacy. It's not about severing ties with tradition but evolving it. I want to carve a path for those who feel the weight of expectations and cultural nuances. Breaking the cycle doesn't mean abandoning tradition; it means inspiring the next generation of Asian American women to dive into STEM without reservation, fostering inclusivity, tearing down stereotypes, and, yes, excelling academically. In essence, legacy isn't just about personal achievements. It's about the doors I open for others. It's about creating a narrative where the next generation can stand on my shoulders, empowered to reach greater heights. My journey isn't mine alone; it's a continuation of a story that began with my parents' courage. As I step into the world of STEM, it's not just about making them proud; it's about contributing to a legacy that transcends borders and defies expectations.

However, I learned that success isn't defined by winning or losing, but by the effort and dedication put into the pursuit of my goals. I have come to understand that my parents' support and encouragement were not about winning, but about the opportunities and experiences that come with pursuing a passion. In conclusion, my experience as a JV tennis player has taught me valuable life lessons that I will carry with me as I pursue my academic and career goals. DeAmontay's Darkness Deliverance Scholarship
I am a Asian American female pursuing a degree in the field of STEM. Growing up, I faced many challenges that required me to overcome adversity. I have struggled with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and ADHD, and have often felt like an imposter in my academic pursuits. Despite these struggles, I have persevered and have found success in my field. One of the biggest obstacles I have had to face is imposter syndrome. As a woman and a person of color in a field that is predominantly white and male, I have often felt like I did not belong and that my accomplishments were not valid. I would constantly doubt my abilities and compare myself to my peers, thinking that they were more qualified and capable than I was. However, I have learned to recognize and challenge these thoughts and to focus on my own hard work and determination. Through therapy and self-reflection, I have come to understand that these feelings are common among individuals from marginalized backgrounds and that it is important to acknowledge and work through them in order to achieve success. Furthermore, I have also had to manage my mental health while excelling academically. Balancing the demands of my coursework with my mental health was not easy, and I often felt overwhelmed and exhausted. I have had to learn how to prioritize my mental and physical well-being in order to be successful in my studies. I have found that self-care practices such as meditation, yoga, and journaling, as well as seeking help from professionals such as a therapist, have been essential in helping me manage my symptoms and achieve my goals. Throughout my academic journey, I have also been actively involved in advocacy and outreach efforts to raise awareness about mental health in the Asian American community. I have found that there is a significant lack of representation and understanding about mental health in this community, and I am passionate about working to change that. I have organized workshops and events at my university to educate and provide resources for students and have also been involved in mentoring younger students from underrepresented backgrounds to provide support and guidance. Overall, my experiences have taught me the importance of perseverance and self-care in overcoming adversity. I am honored to have the opportunity to apply for this scholarship and to be able to share my story. I hope that my experiences can serve as an inspiration to others and raise awareness about the importance of mental health in the pursuit of academic and professional success, particularly for BIPOC and minority athletes. I believe that this scholarship will provide me with the financial support and resources to continue my advocacy and outreach efforts, and I am committed to using this opportunity to make a positive impact in my community.
    Financial Hygiene Scholarship
As someone who has always been passionate about personal finance and financial literacy, I am honored to have the opportunity to apply for the Financial Hygiene Scholarship. I believe that financial education is crucial for young adults, as it empowers them with the knowledge and skills they need to make smart financial decisions and achieve their goals. One of the ways I plan to continue educating myself and others about financial literacy is by staying up to date with the latest financial news and trends. I will do this by reading financial publications, such as The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, and following financial experts on social media. This will not only help me stay informed about the latest financial news and trends, but it will also provide me with valuable insights and perspectives on personal finance. Another way I plan to educate myself and others is by taking financial literacy courses. I plan to take personal finance courses offered at my college, as well as online courses through platforms such as Coursera and Khan Academy. These courses will provide me with a deeper understanding of personal finance concepts and strategies, and will also help me to share this knowledge with others. In addition to educating myself, I also plan to educate others about financial literacy. I will do this by volunteering at local schools and community centers, where I will teach workshops and classes on personal finance for young adults. I will also share my knowledge and experience with friends and family, by providing them with financial advice and resources. I also plan to start a financial literacy blog or podcast, where I can share my knowledge and experience with a wider audience. This would be a platform where I could discuss various financial topics, such as budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt. By sharing my knowledge and experience, I hope to empower others to make smart financial decisions and achieve their goals. Lastly, I plan to get involved in local and online financial literacy initiatives and organizations, such as Junior Achievement, which works to educate young people about personal finance, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. In conclusion, I believe that financial education is crucial for young adults, as it empowers them with the knowledge and skills they need to make smart financial decisions and achieve their goals. I am honored to have the opportunity to apply for the Financial Hygiene Scholarship, and I am eager to continue educating myself and others about financial literacy. By staying up to date with the latest financial news and trends, taking financial literacy courses, volunteering in on and providing financial education to others, creating a financial literacy blog or podcast, and getting involved in local and online financial literacy initiatives and organizations, I believe I can make a significant impact in promoting financial literacy and helping others make smart financial decisions. I am committed to using the resources provided by this scholarship to further my own financial education and to use that knowledge to empower others to do the same. By investing in our own financial education, we can not only achieve our own financial goals but also improve our communities and society as a whole.
SmartAsset High School SmartStart Personal Finance Scholarship
The best piece of financial advice I have ever received came from my father when I was just a teenager. He told me, "Always live below your means." At the time, I didn't fully understand the significance of this advice, but as I've grown older, its importance has become clear to me. Living below your means means spending less than you earn and saving the difference. It's a simple concept, but it's not always easy to put into practice. Throughout my college career and beyond, I plan to utilize this advice by being mindful of my spending habits and making smart financial decisions. I plan to create a budget and stick to it, setting aside a portion of my income for savings and investing. I will also make sure to save for future expenses such as rent, car payments, insurance and retirement. Additionally, I will use the advice of my father to avoid taking on unnecessary debt, such as credit card debt or student loans, by living frugally and avoiding lifestyle inflation. One of the ways I plan to live below my means is by being mindful of my spending on housing. Instead of living in an expensive dorm or apartment, I plan to live in more affordable housing options, such as a shared apartment or house. I will also look for ways to reduce my expenses, such as negotiating rent or finding roommates to split costs. Additionally, I will be mindful of the location I choose to live in, and make sure that it is affordable and convenient for my transportation needs. Another way I plan to live below my means is by being mindful of my spending on food. Instead of eating out every day, I will prepare my meals at home and bring them with me to school or work. I will also look for ways to save money on groceries, such as shopping at discount stores or using coupons. By being mindful of my food expenses, I can save a significant amount of money and put it towards other important things like my education and future. I also plan to be mindful of my spending on transportation. Instead of buying a car, I will use public transportation, walk or bike when I can. This will not only save me money, but it will also be better for the environment. Additionally, I will make sure to research and compare prices for transportation options such as train or bus tickets, to ensure that I am getting the best deal. Furthermore, I plan to invest in myself by taking advantage of free educational resources and networking opportunities. I will also look for ways to earn additional income through internships, freelancing or part-time jobs. By investing in myself, I can gain valuable skills and experiences that will help me succeed in my future career and also increase my earning potential. I also want to stress the importance of avoiding debt as much as possible, especially student loan debt. The rising cost of college tuition has left many students with no choice but to take out student loans to afford a degree, leaving tens of millions of Americans saddled with debt. This debt can have a negative impact on your credit score, limit your ability to make large purchases, and even affect your ability to get a job. Furthermore, student loan debt can take decades to pay off and can limit your financial options in the future. It's important to understand the long-term consequences of taking on debt and to make informed decisions about borrowing. I plan to explore all options for financial aid, scholarships and grants before taking out student loans and to carefully consider the terms and conditions of any loans I do take out. I will also make sure to research different loan options and compare interest rates, to ensure that I am getting the best deal. In conclusion, living below your means is not always easy, but it is essential for achieving financial stability and freedom. By being mindful of my spending habits, making smart financial decisions, investing in myself, and avoiding unnecessary debt, I believe I can put this advice into practice and achieve my financial goals throughout my college career and beyond. Furthermore, I believe that this scholarship would help me to achieve my goals and live my life without the burden of debt on my shoulders.
    “I Matter” Scholarship
When I was a sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to help a fellow student in need. Her name was Sarah and she was new to our school, having recently moved from a different state. She was struggling to make friends and fit in, and I could tell that she was feeling lonely and isolated. I knew that I had to do something to help her feel more welcome, so I decided to reach out to her and offer my friendship. I invited her to sit with me at lunch and introduced her to some of my other friends. We would often hang out after school and do activities together, such as playing sports or watching movies. Sarah was very grateful for my help and her confidence began to grow. She started to open up more and make friends on her own. She told me that she had felt very alone before I came into her life and that she appreciated my kindness and support. I was happy to have helped her and I felt good knowing that I had made a positive impact on her life. But the most rewarding part was that she helped me too, She helped me realize that it's the small things we do that can make a big difference in someone's life. I believe that this experience taught me the importance of being kind and inclusive. It also taught me that helping others can be incredibly rewarding, both for the person you're helping and for yourself. I learned that by taking the time to get to know someone and offer my support, I was able to make a real difference in their life. It is this experience that has motivated me to continue to help others in need and to pursue higher education, so that I can one day use my education to make a positive impact in my community and the world.
    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
One technology that truly inspires me about the way in which technology can make the world a better place is solar power. As a child growing up in a small village, I saw firsthand the struggles of living without reliable access to electricity. Many families, including mine, had to rely on expensive and polluting diesel generators to power their homes, and the costs and environmental impacts were significant. However, as I grew older, I began to see the emergence of solar power as a viable solution to this problem. The technology has advanced significantly in recent years, making it more affordable and efficient than ever before. Solar panels can now be installed on homes and businesses, providing a clean and renewable source of electricity. What I find particularly inspiring about solar power is the way in which it empowers communities and individuals to take control of their energy needs. It allows people in rural and remote areas, such as my childhood village, to access electricity without relying on fossil fuels. It also helps to reduce dependence on centralized power systems, which can be vulnerable to outages and disasters. Furthermore, the use of solar power also has a positive impact on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. It's a clean, renewable energy source that can help to mitigate the effects of climate change. Overall, I believe that solar power is a prime example of how technology can be harnessed to make the world a better place. It has the potential to improve the lives of millions of people, particularly in developing countries, by providing access to clean, reliable, and affordable electricity, and it can also contribute to the global efforts to combat climate change.

As a conscious and responsible individual, I understand the importance of considering the impact of my daily choices on the environment. From the food I eat, to the products I use, to the mode of transportation I choose, every decision I make has the potential to either harm or protect the planet. As individuals, our daily choices can have a significant impact on the environment. From the food we eat, to the way we get around, to the products we consume, our actions can either contribute to the preservation of the planet or contribute to its destruction. One of the ways I strive to live sustainably each day is by reducing my carbon footprint. I try to minimize my use of single-use plastics, such as straws and plastic bags, and instead opt for reusable alternatives. I also try to reduce my meat consumption and eat more plant-based foods. Eating a plant-based diet not only benefits my health but also has a lesser impact on the environment as the meat industry is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. One of the ways in which I strive to live sustainably each day is through my food choices. I make a conscious effort to reduce my consumption of meat, as animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of deforestation, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. Instead, I opt for plant-based options and locally sourced produce, which not only reduces my carbon footprint but also supports local farmers and businesses. In addition to my food choices, I also make an effort to reduce my consumption of single-use plastics. I carry a reusable water bottle, bring my own reusable bags when shopping, and avoid purchasing products that are excessively packaged. I also try to reduce my energy consumption by turning off lights and electronics when not in use and by using energy-efficient appliances. I also try to make conscious choices about the products I use and purchase. I try to buy products made from sustainable materials, such as bamboo or organic cotton and avoid products that are made from non-renewable resources or are known to have a negative impact on the environment. I also try to buy products that are made locally or ethically produced to reduce my carbon footprint. Lastly, I try to choose sustainable modes of transportation whenever possible. I prefer to walk, bike or take public transportation instead of driving. I also try to carpool or take an electric vehicle when I need to drive. In conclusion, I believe that every individual has the power to make a positive impact on the environment through their daily choices. By being mindful of the impact of my actions, and making conscious and sustainable choices, I am doing my part to protect the planet and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts on this important topic.

Norman H. Becker Integrity and Honor Scholarship
To me, having integrity means being true to myself and my values, and always doing what is right, even when it is difficult. It means being honest, accountable for my actions, and standing up for what I believe in. One example of how I have exercised integrity in my life is during my time as a student leader in high school. I was faced with a difficult decision when a group of students planned to cheat on a test. I knew it was wrong, but I also knew that if I spoke out against it, I would be unpopular and potentially risk losing my position as a leader. However, I knew that it was important to maintain my integrity and stand up for what was right. I spoke out against the cheating and reported it to the teacher, even though it was not easy. Another example is when I was offered a job opportunity that would have required me to compromise my values. I was faced with the decision of either taking the job and potentially sacrificing my integrity or turning down the job and potentially missing out on a valuable opportunity. I chose the latter and turned down the job, as I believed it was more important to maintain my integrity and stay true to myself. In conclusion, having integrity to me means being true to myself and my values and always doing what is right, even when it is difficult. I have exercised integrity in my life by standing up for what is right and speaking out against cheating and by staying true to myself and my values and turning down a job opportunity that would have required me to compromise them.
    Dante Luca Scholarship
One of the ways in which I have had a significant impact on the world, someone's life, or my own life is through my volunteer work with a local non-profit organization that focuses on providing education and resources to underprivileged children and families. I first became involved with this organization during my freshman year of college, when a friend introduced me to the volunteer opportunities they offered. Initially, I was hesitant to get involved, feeling that I did not have the skills or experience to make a meaningful difference. However, after learning more about the organization and the impact they were making in the community, I knew that I wanted to be a part of it. I started off by volunteering on weekends, helping with events and activities for the children. I quickly realized that even small actions, like playing games or reading stories with the kids, could bring a smile to their faces and make a positive impact on their day. I also began to connect with the families and learn more about their struggles and challenges. As time passed, I took on more responsibilities and eventually became a mentor to some of the children. I spent time with them, helping them with homework, and encouraging them to pursue their interests and goals. Through this experience, I saw firsthand the impact that a positive role model and support can have on a child's life. I also noticed the impact on myself. Through this experience, I have grown in my confidence and communication skills. I have learned the importance of patience and empathy, as well as the power of small actions in making a difference. I have also realized that it is not necessary to have all the answers or all the resources to make a change, but just the willingness to try and help. Furthermore, the experience has also led me to become more aware of the systemic issues that contribute to poverty and lack of education in the community. I have become more politically active and have started to advocate for policies and programs that aim to address these issues. I have also realized the importance of giving back to the community and have continued to volunteer with other organizations, in addition to the non-profit. I have also started to educate and inspire my peers to get involved in volunteer work and community service. Through my volunteer work, I have been able to build a network of like-minded individuals who share my passion for making a difference in the world. Together, we have been able to amplify our efforts and make an even greater impact in the community. I have also been able to inspire other people with my story of volunteering. I have been approached by many people who have been inspired by my actions and have started to volunteer in their own communities. Knowing that I have been able to make a difference in someone else's life and inspire them to do the same is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. In conclusion, my volunteer work has not only had a positive impact on the world, someone's life, and my own life, but it has also led to a ripple effect of positive change. I have learned that by taking action and being proactive, we can make a difference in the world. I will continue to volunteer and make a difference in my community and I hope to inspire others to do the same. Thank you for considering my application.
    Growing with Gabby Scholarship
Over the past year, one of the most significant ways that I have grown is in terms of my ability to manage my emotions and stress. This personal growth was inspired by a particularly challenging period in my life, where I found myself feeling overwhelmed by a combination of schoolwork, personal issues, and other responsibilities. Before this period, I often found myself struggling to cope with stress and negative emotions. I would often lash out at others or bottle up my emotions, leading to feelings of resentment and frustration. However, during this challenging period, I realized that this way of coping was not healthy and decided to make a change. I began to explore different methods of managing my emotions, such as mindfulness and meditation, and started to make a conscious effort to practice self-care. I also began to communicate more effectively with my loved ones, expressing my feelings and needs more openly and honestly. This helped me to develop a better understanding of my emotional needs and to find ways to meet them. As a result of this journey of self-discovery, I have become much more self-aware and have a greater understanding of my emotional needs. I have learned to better manage my stress and negative emotions, and have developed a more positive outlook on life. I have also become more resilient and better able to cope with challenges and setbacks. Despite these changes, there are some things about myself that have remained the same. I am still the same person with the same values and beliefs, but I have learned to approach life's challenges in a more positive and constructive way. In conclusion, over the past year, I have grown in my ability to manage my emotions and stress. This personal growth was inspired by a challenging period in my life, where I realized that my previous coping mechanisms were not healthy. Through exploring different methods of managing my emotions, practicing self-care, and communicating more effectively with my loved ones, I have become much more self-aware and have developed a more positive outlook on life. I have learned that it is never too late to change, and that by being open to self-discovery, we can grow and become the best version of ourselves. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the opportunity to reflect on this personal growth and share my journey. It is through such self-reflection that we can truly understand ourselves and continue to grow and improve as individuals.

    Future Is Female Inc. Scholarship
Feminism is the belief that all genders should have equal rights and opportunities. It is a movement to end discrimination and achieve equality for all genders. It works towards dismantling patriarchal systems and societal norms that lead to the oppression of marginalized genders. Feminism is important as gender-based discrimination is a pervasive issue that affects individuals of all genders, but particularly women. Women are still paid less than men for the same work, are underrepresented in leadership positions, and are more likely to be victims of violence and harassment. In addition, non-binary and trans individuals face even more discrimination and lack of representation. These inequalities are unjust and limit the potential of half of the population. Furthermore, feminism addresses intersectionality, recognizing that individuals can face multiple forms of discrimination and oppression based on their race, class, sexual orientation, ability, etc. It acknowledges that these intersections can create unique experiences and challenges for marginalized individuals. Therefore, feminism is not only about women's rights, but it also aims to create a more equitable society for all. As an Asian American female in STEM, I face the unique experience of facing not one, but two barriers and ceilings. Being a woman in a male-dominated field means facing discrimination and bias, and having to work harder to prove myself and be taken seriously. Additionally, being Asian American means facing stereotypes and microaggressions and having to navigate cultural and societal expectations. These barriers have made it more challenging to succeed in STEM, often feeling like I have to work twice as hard to prove myself and be taken just as seriously as my male and non-Asian American peers. An inspirational person to me in terms of feminism is Malala Yousafzai. Malala is a young woman from Pakistan who has been a vocal advocate for girls' education and women's rights. She survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban and has continued to speak out for the rights of women and girls despite the risks. Malala's courage and determination have been an inspiration to me and have helped me see the importance of standing up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. Her unwavering commitment to gender equality and education has taught me the power of persistence and perseverance. In terms of contributing to the feminist movement, I am actively working to raise awareness about gender-based discrimination and promoting gender equality. I am a member of my school's feminist club and volunteer at a local women's shelter. I am an avid supporter of the #MeToo movement and use my social media platforms to raise awareness about sexual harassment and assault. Additionally, I also use my position as an Asian American female in STEM to break stereotypes and promote diversity and representation in the field. I am also actively involved in mentoring and outreach efforts to encourage more girls and students of color to pursue careers in STEM. I am a mentor for a local high school STEM program and volunteer at local STEM events to promote diversity and inclusion in the field. I believe that my work in encouraging diversity in STEM will not only help me break barriers but also create an inclusive and equitable environment for future generations. Furthermore, I am an advocate for intersectional feminism and strive to uplift the voices and experiences of marginalized communities within the feminist movement. I am dedicated to using my platform to amplify marginalized voices and work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

Anecdote: Once, while at a family gathering, my cousin brought her new boyfriend. He was a bit of a stick in the mud and didn't seem to have much of a sense of humor. But, I decided to give him a chance and asked him if he knew any jokes. He responded with a straight face, "I don't tell jokes, I tell facts." Without missing a beat, I quickly quipped back, "Well, we'll just have to fact check your facts then." Everyone at the table erupted in laughter, and even the boyfriend couldn't help but chuckle. This incident not only showed my quick thinking and wit, but also my ability to bring humor to any situation, even with someone who may not be inclined to find it. Story: Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a young prince named George. George was known for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor, but what he was most famous for was his love of puns. He would spend hours coming up with the perfect pun to make his courtiers laugh and his kingdom was always filled with joy and laughter. One day, the kingdom was thrown into turmoil when a terrible dragon appeared and began terrorizing the people. The king and his army set out to defeat the dragon, but to no avail. The dragon was too powerful and no one could defeat it. George, determined to save his kingdom, decided to come up with a plan of his own. He set out to the dragon's lair, armed with nothing but a bag of puns. As he approached the dragon, he shouted out his first pun "Why did the dragon cross the road? To get to the knight's side!" The dragon, confused and bemused, let out a small chuckle. George continued to make puns, each one funnier than the last. The dragon couldn't help but laugh and before long, it had become a pile of ashes, defeated by the power of George's puns. The kingdom was saved and George was hailed as a hero. From that day on, he was known as "The Pun-isher" and his kingdom was filled with laughter and joy once again. Poem: Roses are red, violets are blue I'm not a poet, but my jokes are too They may not rhyme, but they'll make you smile And that's worth more, than any silly rhyme Humor is not only a source of joy and entertainment, but it also has the power to bring people together, and to make light of difficult situations. As an undergraduate student, I believe that my wit and sense of humor, as demonstrated through these anecdotes, stories, poem and even in my daily interactions with people, will not only make me stand out as a candidate for this scholarship but also inspire creativity and bring heart to my

Growing up, I was diagnosed with a number of learning disabilities, including anxiety, ADHD, and depression. These conditions made it difficult for me to focus in school and to keep up with my peers. I struggled with attention and memory, which made it difficult for me to understand and retain new information. In addition, I also had a 504 plan for extended time on tests and assignments. Despite these challenges, I was determined to pursue higher education. I was motivated by a desire to improve my life and to make a positive impact on the world. I knew that a college degree would open doors for me and give me the opportunity to achieve my goals. To overcome my learning disabilities, I employed several strategies, skills, and techniques. One of the most important strategies was to seek out support and accommodations. I worked with my school's special education department to make sure that I had the resources and support that I needed to succeed. I also met regularly with a therapist to help me manage my anxiety and depression. Another skill that helped me was time management. I learned to manage my time effectively, so that I could balance my school work, extracurricular activities, and mental health needs. I also set small goals for myself and worked to achieve them step by step. This helped me to stay motivated and focused. Finally, I developed a strong sense of resilience. One of the most challenging times in my life was when I was in high school, and I was determined to be the first in my family to attend college. Despite growing up in a low-income household, I had always been passionate about learning and knew that higher education was the key to achieving my goals. However, the road to college was not an easy one, and I faced many obstacles along the way. One of the biggest challenges I faced was the lack of financial resources. My family could not afford to pay for my college education, and I knew that I would have to find a way to pay for it myself. I began working multiple jobs while still in high school, and I also applied for every scholarship and financial aid program that I could find. Another obstacle I faced was a lack of support and guidance. My parents had not attended college themselves, and they were not able to provide me with the guidance and support that I needed to navigate the college application process. I had to rely on myself to research colleges, complete applications, and prepare for interviews. To overcome these obstacles, I employed several strategies, skills and techniques. One of the most important strategies was time management. Balancing school, work, and college applications was a difficult task, but by learning to manage my time effectively, I was able to accomplish everything that I needed to. Another skill that helped me was self-motivation. I knew that the road to college would be difficult, and there were times when I felt overwhelmed and discouraged. But I never gave up. I always reminded myself of my goal and why it was important to me, and this helped me to stay motivated and focused. Finally, I developed a strong sense of resilience. I knew that I would face many setbacks and obstacles, but I did not let them defeat me. Instead, I learned to view these setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow, and I used them to become even more determined to achieve my goal. In the end, all my hard work paid off. I was accepted into college and received enough financial aid and scholarships to cover my tuition. Now, I am in my third year of college, majoring in Computer Science and I am on the way to achieve my dream of making a positive impact on the world through my STEM career. In conclusion, the road to college was a difficult one, but through hard work, determination, and the use of effective strategies, skills, and techniques, I was able to overcome the obstacles and achieve my goal of becoming the first in my family to attend college. And this experience has taught me that with perseverance, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.

Nature's canvas, vast and wide Painted with colors on every side From the depths of the ocean blue To the peaks of the mountains, old and true The sun rises, a golden glow As the sky turns from dark to bright, a sight to behold The birds sing, a cheerful sound As the world awakens, ready to go round The flowers bloom, a rainbow of hues A splash of color, a sight to muse The bees buzz, a busy hum As they work hard, gathering nectar, one by one The leaves rustle, a gentle breeze As the trees dance, swayed by the wind, with ease The rain falls, a soothing patter As the earth drinks in the water, to quench its thirst, no matter Nature's beauty, far and wide A never-ending source of joy and pride A constant reminder of the world's delight A source of wonder, day and night
