The community is so welcoming and I love that everyone has many passions. I have had the opportunity to make friends with people who have all different experiences and are from all over the world. All of the professors really want you to succeed and there is always tons of availability for extra help or opportunities outside of class.
Prospective students should be aware that clubs can sometimes be competitive but there is always a club that you can join!
In the Summer of 2019, I took a trip to Washington DC for vacation. My mom had prompted me to look into colleges to visit. I had never thought of any I was interested in within the nation's capital. The only one I remotely knew of was Georgetown University. And to tell the truth, only one thing came to my mind when thinking about it; ‘If I tour there, I can go to Georgetown Cupcake after!’. Little did I know that when I stepped onto Georgetown’s campus how much I would value the academic tokens that stood out just by walking the antique charming halls of each building the tour guide led us through. My favorite moment came when we were in a scenic and peaceful courtyard behind White-Gravenor Hall. I was getting a little overwhelmed with all the information entering my brain, and then, the unexpected happened. We took a break from talking about the bells and whistles and just stood, taking in the fresh air (and shade on a hot day). and paused. Georgetown had everything I wanted in higher education. Pre-Med was the obvious choice at the time of my visit, but when they explained that I could formulate my own curriculum to perfectly conform to my specific interests, that was the smoking gun. I have always had a passion for different cultures around the world and the stories that people tell coming with it; Creative Writing, Humanities, etc. This was equally matched with my passion for medicine. The conflicting subjects seemed to never come together in my head. Learning about the great study abroad program opportunities that every student raved about, a naturally interdisciplinary curriculum, and inclusive culture enriched in every aspect helped me realize Georgetown was a perfect fit. But it wasn’t just this. At that moment I thought, that many students overlook the fact that ‘flowers grow around other flowers’. This means you can only learn and grow when you are surrounded by a supportive environment. This little pocket of nature on campus was exactly that. I could suddenly imagine myself studying on a bench with friends, doing yoga, or writing poetry to unwind after a day of classes. With not only the tangible education offered as a Georgetown College student but the cultural and environmental learning; my dreams of nurturing both my passion for medicine and love for writing seem right in reach.
