Wrestling has played a large role in helping mold many young kids into hard-working and productive adults.

Athletes who stick with the sport are often the next generation of volunteer youth and high school coaches who go on to teach this incredible sport to the next generation of athletes.

This scholarship seeks to support wrestlers who are pursuing higher education while continuing to compete in wrestling.

Any high school senior or undergraduate student who wrestles or will wrestle in college may apply for this scholarship if they’re majoring in a STEM field.

Wrestling has profoundly shaped my life, instilling in me qualities that will be invaluable as I pursue a degree in civil engineering at The Citadel. At Stratford High School, the sport taught me discipline, mental toughness, and the importance of strategic thinking—all of which I am eager to apply to my academic and professional future. The lessons learned on the wrestling mat have prepared me to tackle the challenges of engineering with determination and resilience. The rigors of wrestling demand not just physical strength, but also the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure—skills that are essential in civil engineering. Whether facing complex coursework or tight project deadlines, I am confident that the perseverance and work ethic developed through wrestling will help me excel. This sport has ingrained in me a relentless pursuit of goals, which I plan to bring to my studies as I delve into infrastructure design and development. Beyond academics, I am passionate about giving back to the wrestling community that has given me so much. During the off-season, I intend to coach and mentor young wrestlers at my high school. This role will allow me to instill the values of hard work, perseverance, and sportsmanship in the next generation of athletes. By sharing my experiences and guiding young wrestlers, I hope to help them develop both as competitors and as individuals. At The Citadel, I am eager to join the wrestling program, continuing to grow as an athlete while balancing my engineering studies. Collegiate wrestling will provide a supportive community and a structured environment that will be crucial for maintaining my physical and mental well-being. Competing at this level will not only hone my athletic skills but also reinforce the discipline and strategic thinking needed for my academic pursuits. Looking ahead, I am open to the idea of formal coaching after graduation. Whether through volunteering at local wrestling clubs or taking on a coaching role at a high school or college, I want to remain connected to the sport. Wrestling has given me so much, and I feel a responsibility to pass on my knowledge and experience. By coaching, I can contribute to the development of future wrestlers, helping them navigate the challenges of the sport and encouraging them to strive for excellence both on and off the mat. In conclusion, the skills and values I have acquired through wrestling will be instrumental in my success as a civil engineering student and professional. The discipline, strategic thinking, and resilience I have developed will help me overcome challenges and achieve my goals. My commitment to giving back through coaching underscores my dedication to the sport and its community. As I embark on this new chapter at The Citadel, I am excited to apply the lessons learned from wrestling to all aspects of my life, ensuring that the sport continues to shape me and those I mentor for years to come
