STEM fields such as engineering offer high salaries, growth opportunities, and the ability to change the course of our world's future.

However, many bright students who wish to become engineers are thwarted by the costs of higher education and/or by a lack of contacts and mentors in the field. Providing opportunities for underprivileged students is crucial for making STEM accessible and ensuring that high-potential students are able to achieve their goals, regardless of the cost.

This scholarship is dedicated to fostering diversity in STEM and empowering underprivileged and underrepresented individuals in engineering.

Any BIPOC high school student in Texas who is pursuing STEM and is a first or second-generation college student may apply for this scholarship.

I will always be proud of the side of me that made a way when people said I couldn't. I am blessed to be in the position I am right now but need help getting there. My name is Rachael Zamora, and I am a proud First generation Mexican-American who will be majoring in Engineering at Texas A&M University in the fall. During my high school career, I have taken numerous AP classes, the majority of them being STEM orientated, because math and science are my strong points. I have stayed in the top 7% of my class and graduated Magna cum laude, honor society, and have served in Nemours leadership roles through my school. I have managed to do all of this and more while living in a hotel for the majority of my junior and senior years, taking care of my grandma and uncle during health crises, and always putting my academics first. Learning to adapt to these situations was challenging but they have helped shape me into who I am today and taught me how to balance things. I have always been drawn to STEM since I was young, It started as going to camp and watching the stars shine without light pollution, then it was going o base with my grandpa to watch the planes refuel. These experiences have helped guide me to engineering. I was to explore the unknown and learn from others. having the ability to create new things and test my limits is a blessing I am grateful for. The STEM program in high school was difficult because the majority of my classes had fewer them 8 people in them and I was the only female. Being in an environment like that at first is very intimidating because of the lack of community within. I want to be someone that other people could look up to, someone who may be a first-generation student like me and is nervous in this new part of their life, or a young girl who wants to do STEM when she grows up. I will be someone they can have in their community, a community I wish I had. My name is Rachael Zamora I am a proud first-generation Mexican-American student and I will be majoring in engineering in the fall at TexasA&M University. I will use my degree to help others who are found in the same situation see that there are options and anything is possible.
