a current active duty/reservist or honorably discharged Veteran or have a family member who is active duty military or an honorably discharged veteran.

Every day, military service members risk their lives and work hard for the comfort and protection of their country.

By extension, military families are also constantly making sacrifices as they lose out on time with their loved ones and are always worrying about their health and safety. While service is a noble calling and veterans don’t expect any thanks in return, these families deserve assistance in exchange for all they’ve given up for the sake of their communities.

This scholarship seeks to thank veterans, active military, and their families for their sacrifices by making college more accessible to their dependents.

Any high school senior or undergraduate student who will play golf in college may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they are a current Active duty/reservist or honorably discharged Veteran or have a family member who is active duty military or an honorably discharged veteran.

To apply, tell us how the veteran in your life has impacted you to become who you are today, how long you’ve played golf, what your goals are, and how you will promote the veteran community as you embark on your journey.

My grandfather, a proud Vietnam War veteran, has had a profound impact on my life and the way I approach service to others. Growing up, I admired his courage and the sacrifices he made for his country. His stories of service and resilience have inspired me to give back to those who have served, and my involvement with veterans is something I carry close to my heart. One of the most meaningful ways I’ve been able to give back is through my work with PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere). As a volunteer caddy, I’ve had the privilege of supporting veterans by introducing them to the game of golf, helping them navigate the course, and learning about their experiences along the way. For many veterans, golf becomes not just a sport, but a form of rehabilitation and community. This experience has taught me invaluable lessons in empathy and the power of sport to bring people together, especially those who’ve given so much in service to our country. I’ve witnessed firsthand how golf can provide veterans with a sense of purpose, healing, and camaraderie. Golf itself has been a passion of mine since I was six years old, and it has shaped me in many ways. The discipline, focus, and perseverance required in the sport mirror the qualities I admire in veterans. I am honored to have the opportunity to continue my golf career at Chapman University, where I plan to compete at the collegiate level. Pursuing golf at Chapman will not only help me grow as an athlete but also allow me to be a positive role model for others, particularly veterans and young people in my community who are looking to find a path through sports. My ultimate goal is to use my platform in golf to continue supporting the veteran community. If awarded the T’s Golf Foundation Scholarship, I would use this opportunity to promote awareness of veterans’ issues and support organizations like PGA HOPE that provide essential resources to those who have served. I believe that sports can create powerful connections, and I would work to integrate veterans' programs into my journey as a student-athlete, whether through hosting charity events, speaking about the importance of supporting veterans, or raising funds for causes that help them transition to civilian life. In conclusion, the T’s Golf Foundation Scholarship would not only support my education and athletic goals at Chapman University but also enable me to continue serving and advocating for veterans. My grandfather’s legacy and my experience with PGA HOPE have shown me how deeply sports can impact lives, and I am excited to continue this work throughout my college career and beyond.

My Grandfather, My Hero: Michael R. Salas Not all heroes wear capes—some wear Navy uniforms, carry golf clubs, and never miss a tournament. My grandfather, Michael R. Salas, is my hero, biggest supporter, and one of the greatest influences in my life. At 84 years old, he embodies strength, love, and unwavering dedication—to his country and to me. A proud United States Navy veteran, Grandpa’s service was rooted in discipline, courage, and commitment to something greater than himself. His stories—always told with humility—taught me about sacrifice, honor, and integrity. These values have shaped who I am and who I strive to be. Beyond his military service, my grandpa has always been my most loyal cheerleader, especially when it comes to golf. Golf isn’t just a sport for us—it’s our bond. Even now, he insists on golfing with me whenever he can, walking the course slowly but steadily, offering advice, laughs, and support. No matter how early the tee time or how far the drive, he’s there, cheering me on. His presence on the fairway is a reminder of his deep love and commitment. When I committed to play golf at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California, grandpa was overjoyed. I’ll never forget his proud smile and the emotional hug he gave me. He reminded me that success isn’t just built on talent but on character—and he’s helped me develop both. His unwavering belief in me fuels my drive, even on the toughest days. Grandpa has helped mold me into an honorable young woman through his example. He’s honest, kind, and present—qualities I admire deeply. He’s shown me that being honorable means standing up for what’s right, respecting others, and never forgetting those who’ve helped you along the way. Most importantly, he’s shown me that simply showing up, time after time, is one of the greatest acts of love. I started playing golf at the age of three and began competing seriously in 2019. Since then, the sport has become an essential part of my life. It’s taught me patience, discipline, and resilience—lessons that apply far beyond the golf course. In the fall of 2025, I’ll begin my journey as a student-athlete on Vanguard’s women’s golf team, excited to grow both on and off the course. My ultimate goal is to play at the highest level I can, but more importantly, to use my platform to give back—especially to the veteran community. Inspired by my grandfather’s service and the impact it’s had on my life, I’m passionate about honoring and supporting veterans however I can. If awarded this scholarship, I would proudly use it to promote the veteran community and the foundation’s mission throughout my journey. One meaningful way I plan to give back is by organizing a veteran golf tournament—an event to raise funds that cover green fees and lunch for veterans who want to participate. Golf is more than a game; it’s a way to build community, find peace, and stay active. I believe this kind of event could help veterans reconnect, feel appreciated, and enjoy the same joy the sport has brought to my life. I would raise money by donations, offer free lessons for donations and raffle prizes. Michael R. Salas is more than a veteran. He is my grandfather, my mentor, and the heart behind every swing I take. I carry his spirit with me always—and I hope to honor him with every step of my journey. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Best regards, Rylee
