Tony Scherer Lower Flint Memorial Scholarship
Anthony Scherer was a friend and alumnus of the University of Chicago who passed away this summer.
Tony was a resident of the Flint House and was known for his incredible work ethic and involvement. He put time and effort into his studies and was respected by his peers, housemates, and friends. Tony was an amazing individual who was always willing to help his family and friends and do whatever he could to make the world a better place.
This scholarship aims to honor the memory of Tony Scherer by supporting students at his alma mater as they pursue their studies.
Any undergraduate student at the University of Chicago who has financial need and is involved in at least one extracurricular activity at school may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they do well in school and are well-regarded by peers. However, applicants who are multi-year residents of Flint House are preferred.

Please write a paragraph explaining how you help others, and how you plan to make the world a better place. Also include how the scholarship award will help your journey at the U of C. Finally, please include the name of your residence and how many years you have lived there.

The winner will be publicly announced on May 1, 2026. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
