Small Seed Big Flower Scholarship

Besides that I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Music and soon wish to enroll into a masters program to get a Master's Degree in Music with a Concentration in Education, I am a student who takes pride of my Hispanic background and am grateful for the teachings, such as working hard and being humble, my parents instilled in me in order to be successful. However, as I've come to learn, hard work, stellar grades, and being in good standing are only a few small factors that play a role in allowing me to see my big dream of one becoming a music teacher possible. Two obstacles that are standing in the way of me creating my dream to reality are transportation to my university, and myself. To begin, transportation is a mountain in my way that I must learn to climb over. Unfortunately, the only means of reliable transportation that I have is my father and mother driving me to the university. Although my parents claim it not to be a bother to them having to take me to the campus and back home, a thirty-two mile long trip, every single day, I know that it worries them due to the inflation of gasoline prices, and the idea that one day they may not be able to take me. Which would result on me having to miss class. Thankfully, I'm learning to adapt to this situation by studying the rules of driving and traffic, and coming to an agreement with a family friend who told me they would be more than willing to teach me how to drive. In addition, my father and I are already in the process of restoring one of our older, yet reliable cars, so that I may use it to make the commute to school. Thankfully, the car my father and I are in the process of restoring is an economic sedan. Meaning it will be one great way for me to save a bit of money that I can then use elsewhere like, for example, to pay off my books and school-related fees. Next, the second obstacle hindering me is myself. Unfortunately, I find myself to think pessimistically too frequently. Meaning I am always thinking the worst outcome is the only outcome that will happen. Now that I am in college, I, sadly, think to myself "you're not going to make it," "you're going to fail," "you will only come out of this first semester with debt and nothing to show for your time in the university." Yes, it may be so that sometimes "life happens" and certain things will happen and cause some setbacks, but, like how one of my inspirational English teachers told me, "nothing can hurt metal except its own rust. Similarly, nothing can stop you from doing anything except your own mindset." Which means that I must learn to be proactive and remind myself "I know I'll find a way and I'll overcome." When I find myself pondering "it's impossible! What am I going to do?" In addition, by surrounding myself with a support group of friends, I'll be able to think more optimistically thanks to my friends helping me keep my head held high while also being there to assist them. All in all, I believe that soon I shall overcome these obstacles, and my dream will become reality soon. I know it'll be tough, but if I can overcome learning to drive, and to start believing in myself, I can do anything I work hard at achieving.
