Shawn Morrill was a valued member of the SGNL Communications team and a friend to many throughout his community. He was known for his vibrant personality, his sense of humor, and his unique ability to bring joy to those around him.
Shawn worked as a radio technician and quickly distinguished himself through his strong work ethic, motivation, and sense of responsibility. He approached every task with care and determination, and his positive attitude made him a genuine pleasure to be around.
At the time of his passing on May 6, 2025, Shawn was actively pursuing his goal of becoming an electrical technician. He had a passion for learning and a natural curiosity about how things worked, especially in the world of electronics and communication systems. His dedication to his craft and his future was evident to everyone who knew him.
This scholarship seeks to honor the life of Shawn Morrill by supporting students who are determined, hardworking, and committed to creating their own path forward.
Any high school senior or trade or technical student from Connecticut pursuing electronics or communications (preferably in a field associated with two-way radio systems) may apply for this scholarship opportunity. Applicants who are working toward their education through employment or other means of financial responsibility are preferred. The ideal applicant takes initiative, is reliable, and demonstrates a sense of humor and a positive attitude, bringing energy and light to those in their community, just as Shawn did.

The winner will be publicly announced on Sep 13, 2026. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution or future academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
