Serve Greater Scholarship
Ivadell Vernon was a beloved mother who passed away in 2017 after a battle with cancer and is remembered fondly by her community.
Ivadell volunteered at Gate City Christian School and loved advancing the education of local students. When she passed, Ivadell was honored as being someone who #servedgreater. All who knew her remember her as an exceptional woman of faith who loved the students she served and always went out of her way to show kindness, grace, and love to others.
This scholarship seeks to honor Ivadell Vernon by supporting students who share her passion for going above and beyond in the name of service.
Any high school senior at Gate City Christian School in Virginia may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they embody the attributes for the meaning #servegreater (by going above and beyond, thinking differently, treating others with kindness, doing what’s right, and going out of their way to help others).
To apply, tell us about yourself, how you’ve served greater, how you’ve helped others, when you’ve been selfless, and what serving greater means to you.
Please tell us about yourself and the ways you've served greater by going above and beyond or thinking outside of the box. What characteristics do you have that show a Christian attitude at all times? How have you helped someone, contributed to a cause, or otherwise showed integrity? Tell us about a time when you were selfless and a time you treated someone with respect, kindness, or empathy (the more examples you have the better). Lastly, tell us what serving greater means to you, or what you believe that it is.
