Schoorens Social Justice Scholarship
Social justice and community activism are the most important things to focus on at this moment as marginalized groups and causes suffer.
Many people don’t realize the level of impact they could make in their communities if they got involved in organizing or advocacy. While it can be easy to feel hopeless and powerless, it’s important for the next generation to realize how much power and potential they have. By getting involved early and building a history of community involvement, today’s youth will become the changemaking leaders of tomorrow.
This scholarship seeks to support students who plan to advocate for marginalized groups and participate in community activism in the future.
Any high school senior in Enfield, Suffield, Somers, East Windsor, Windsor Locks, or Ellington, Connecticut, may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they are interested in social justice reform, community advocacy, and/or making a difference in the fight to stop fascism. However, underrepresented minorities, those with volunteering experience, those pursuing social justice or advocacy degrees, applicants seeking to work at a nonprofit after school, and those with community organizing or advocating experience are preferred.
To apply, tell us how you have advocated for those at risk in your community and how you plan to advocate in the future through your degree, career, or other endeavors.
How have you advocated for those most at risk in your community? How do you plan, either through your degree, career, or otherwise, to continue to advocate for social justice in the future?
