Oscar Borin Memorial Scholarship
Oscar Borin was a beloved father who overcame many hurdles in his life and was dedicated to his career as an engineer.
Oscar was an Italian immigrant who cherished his heritage and was an active member of the Colombo Club in Oakland, California. He was passionate about establishing an enduring legacy and helping students achieve their full potential through education in STEM.
This scholarship aims to honor the memory of Oscar Borin by supporting students who share his heritage and interests.
Any high school senior from the Bay Area in California may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they’re Italian or of Italian descent and if they will attend a four-year college. However, applicants pursuing STEM are preferred.
To apply, complete the essay prompt below and upload two letters of recommendation. The first letter must be from a high school teacher, counselor, or administrator, and the second can be from a person of your choosing (excludes family).
Describe how your Italian heritage plays a role in your and your family's life. How do you honor and celebrate your heritage and culture? Please include any Italian heritage clubs or groups you participate in and/or any celebrations you attend. At the end of your essay, include a sentence noting your closest relative that was born in Italy (i.e., great-grandparent, grandparent, parent, self, etc.) Finally, include the names of all colleges you have applied (or have been accepted) to.

The winner will be publicly announced on Apr 15, 2026. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution or future academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
