This scholarship honors Saraswathy Prabhakaran, a remarkable aunt whose strength and compassion guided a lifetime of service as a nurse.

Nursing is a profession rooted in compassion, resilience, and service, and she embodied those values every day through her work. She supported patients and families during some of their most vulnerable moments, and her commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

This scholarship aims to honor an incredible legacy and the vital role nurses play in our communities by supporting students who demonstrate a strong commitment to service, empathy, and patient care.

Any low-income undergraduate student in New York who is pursuing nursing may apply for this scholarship opportunity. However, applicants from Staten Island are preferred. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to caring for others, compassion, and service - whether through work, volunteering, caregiving for family members, or community involvement. The ideal applicant is drawn to nursing because they want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families. First-generation college students and underrepresented applicants are also preferred.

To apply, tell us about the experiences or influences that led you to pursue a career in nursing, how compassion, service, and resilience have appeared in your life, and how you hope to bring those values into your career as a nurse.
