Kira Jennings was a beloved parent, friend, community member, and district employee who was always there to help anyone in need in any way possible.
Kira attended K-12th grade in the Center Joint Unified School District. As an adult, she returned to the Antelope area so that her two sons could attend school in the Center District. As a parent, Kira was always on campus volunteering in classrooms and as a board member of the PTA. If anyone needed help, they could count on Kira to be there. In her community, she always had school supplies and food items for anyone who needed them. Because of her knowledge of the school, Kira was hired as the secretary at the elementary school her boys attended. As her boys moved up, so did Kira. She was hired at the district level as an administrative secretary for the Director of Special Education. Soon all the schools in the district called Kira when they had a problem or needed a question answered.
In 2022, Kira was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, which had also moved into her lungs. Despite her diagnosis, she didn't slow down. Kira continued to work and volunteer, never complaining about her condition or her pain but instead worrying about everyone around her. Kira sadly passed away in April 2026, one month before her oldest son graduated from high school. There were more than 300 people who attended her Celebration of Life; a testament to how many lives she touched and how many people loved her.
This scholarship aims to honor the life of Kira Jennings by supporting students who demonstrate her commitment to civic duty, academic involvement, and community service.
