Kenneth Hartzler Memorial Basketball Scholarship
Ken Hartzler was a beloved husband, father and athlete who loved basketball above all other sports. He excelled as a shooting guard in high school and college and then as a semi-professional player. After his playing years he continued his contribution to the sport as a highly respected referee in high schools and colleges throughout the mid-Atlantic area for more than 20 years.
Not only was Ken passionate about the sport but dedicated much of his time later in life to coaching and supporting young athletes on their journey to achieving their dreams. This scholarship is a continuation of that passion in his memory.
Sports are an integral part of the educational experiences of many students. While academics should be a priority and are a crucial part of preparing for the world beyond high school and college, sports teach many valuable lessons that can’t always be taught in a classroom.
This scholarship aims to honor the memory of Kenneth Hartzler by supporting the next generation of basketball players. You may apply if you are:
- A high school student in either Harford or Baltimore County Maryland or at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio or
- An undergraduate student at either a 2 or 4 year school in Maryland.
All applicants must be on their schools' basketball team roster and be active. In the case of high school seniors they must be on the varsity team.
Applicants must have exceptional talent and an ambition to succeed both on and off the court.
To apply, tell us what you love about basketball and what you would use the scholarship funds for. Additionally, upload an image of any other awards you’ve received.
