This scholarship seeks to honor the life, memory, and talent of Josh Chapman by supporting the next generation of musicians.

Josh’s greatest joy in life was playing his guitar. At a young age Josh began teaching himself how to read and play music after school. This dedication led him to play in multiple bands on the local scene and through this he was able to play opening for Hinder, Sevendust, Bret Michaels, and Zach Myers of Shinedown.

The idea behind the scholarship is that the memory of Josh and his love of music may live on for years through people with similar interests to him, despite him no longer being here on Earth.

Any high school senior or high school graduate who will pursue further education in a music-related field may apply for this scholarship if they have financial need and are in Connecticut. Students must be passionate about music in some way, whether they’re hoping to be a musician, work in the industry, or work with music in another way.

My Passion for Music Ever since I was a kid, music has been a constant in my life. One of my earliest memories is of my Uncle Paul visiting every Sunday during football season. While he was a huge fan of the game, what stood out even more was his deep love for music. Watching him play guitar lit a spark in me that would grow into something life-changing. I was fortunate to be born with a natural ear for music, but even more fortunate to develop a passion for it that runs deep—like a second heartbeat. The Christmas I received my first real guitar is still one of the most defining moments of my life. From the first time I ran my fingers across its six strings, I felt a connection unlike anything else. That guitar became more than an instrument—it became my voice. Music quickly turned from curiosity to commitment. My love for playing grew into a drive to understand music on a deeper level, which led me to take AP Music Theory. I finished the class with an A and a passing exam score—an achievement that kickstarted my interest in composition and performance. I later had the chance to perform an original song in front of my entire school and was honored with the National School Choral Award the following year. Those experiences taught me not only discipline and creativity but also the courage to share my voice with others. In high school, I’ve consistently earned honors and high honors, but some of my proudest accomplishments have come through music. I became a dedicated member of the Crescendo Club, a music organization that helps students explore both the technical and expressive sides of music. Being able to mentor others and grow alongside them has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey. Looking ahead, my goal is simple yet deeply personal: to become a musician who creates the kind of music that moves people the way it moves me. Whether I’m recording in a studio or composing for film, my mission is to create music that speaks to people—music that inspires, heals, and connects. I want my music to be a source of comfort and understanding for others, just as it has been for me. This scholarship would not only support my education, but also allow me to keep pursuing what I love most—creating meaningful music that has the power to reach hearts and minds. I’m ready to keep learning, growing, and giving back through my art.
