Healing Futures Scholarship
Healing, whether physical, emotional, or communal, must be culturally informed and community-rooted.
Presentation, access, and cultural understanding can transform outcomes in the high-stakes world of healthcare. When representation is lacking, as is often the case in healthcare, voices are often overlooked and ignored rather than being amplified and respected.
This scholarship seeks to support students who are committed to advancing health equity, wellness, and medical care in underserved communities and populations by engaging in work rooted in empathy and cultural specificity.
African American graduate students pursuing medicine, public health, mental health, nutrition, or wellness with at least a 3.0 GPA are encouraged to apply, especially those focusing on women’s health. However, applicants attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities are preferred. Beyond academic focus, the candidate should bring lived experience and cultural insight to their field—whether through personal background, community engagement, or a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing Black communities in healthcare and wellness spaces.
To apply, tell us about a moment when you witnessed a divide in the medical system or tell us how you will bring cultural specificity into your work.
Respond to one of the two prompts below:
1. The medical/wellness system has long struggled with bias, cultural misunderstanding, and unequal care. Reflect on a moment when you witnessed or experienced this divide, and share how it shaped your commitment to transforming health outcomes for underrepresented communities.
2. The lack of diversity in the medical/wellness field affects everything from research to bedside care. As a future leader in health or wellness, how will you challenge the status quo and bring cultural specificity into your work?
