Art has the power to inspire, challenge, and transform. It can evoke emotions, spark conversations, and bring people together. Graffiti, in particular, has taken the art world by storm, bringing color and creativity to the streets and giving a voice to the voiceless.

The GRAFFITI ARTS SCHOLARSHIP aims to support passionate students enrolled in (or intending to pursue) either a Fine Arts or Business degree.

High school seniors, undergraduates, and graduates pursuing a Fine Arts or Business degree may apply. Students interested in graffiti and murals will be given preference.

Angelica Sanchez

My name is Angelica Sanchez, and I am a visual artist who has an unwavering love and deep respect for the art form of graffiti and street art. Graffiti, with its vibrant and rebellious spirit, has captivated me, as it represents a unique form of cultural expression. I am passionate about teaching my students how to explore its techniques, understand its history, and appreciate its powerful impact on communities. As an artist and educator, I believe in the importance of nurturing students' individual creative styles. I am dedicated to empowering young minds to embrace their artistic voices and explore their unique identities through creative expression. I firmly believe that every student possesses innate creativity, and my role as an educator is to guide and inspire them to unlock their artistic potential. One of my greatest joys as a teaching artist is introducing students to the art of graffiti writing. Teaching them how to create impactful murals, stencil graffiti, throwies, and pieces not only allows them to develop their technical skills but also encourages them to engage with their surroundings and express their perspectives on social issues. By embracing the art of graffiti, students have the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on their communities, fostering pride and unity. Graffiti and muralism offer a powerful platform for self-expression, storytelling, and social commentary. Through my teaching, I aim to instill in students a deep respect for these art forms while emphasizing the importance of responsible and legal expression. I guide them in understanding the cultural significance of graffiti, its historical roots, and its potential for positive impact within communities. Furthermore, I emphasize the importance of artistic mentorship and collaboration. I encourage students to explore their own creative styles, providing guidance and support as they navigate their artistic journeys. By fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment, I create space for students to experiment, take risks, and find their authentic voices as artists. Receiving this scholarship would greatly support my mission of promoting individual creativity and nurturing a new generation of artists. It would enable me to invest in art supplies, instructional materials, and resources necessary to create an enriching and inspiring learning environment. Additionally, it would provide opportunities for me to further develop my own artistic skills and expand my knowledge through workshops and professional development opportunities. With the support of this scholarship, I can continue to inspire students to embrace their unique creative styles, respect the power of graffiti, and use art as a means of positive change. I am truly grateful for your consideration and the opportunity to further my artistic and educational pursuits with the support of this scholarship.
