The GIST is a female-founded and led sports media brand that’s leveling the playing field in sports.
Launched in 2018 by three college friends — Jacie deHoop, Ellen Hyslop and Roslyn McLarty — The GIST is all about changing the game in the male-dominated sports industry where less than 14% of journalists are women and less than 4% of coverage is on female athletes.
Three years later, their all-women, 20-person team works day in and day out to change those stats, providing equal coverage on men’s and women’s sports.
Think of them as your witty, sports-obsessed best friend. They're a multimedia destination that's made by and for sports fans who don’t fit (or maybe don’t want to fit) the traditional avid sports fan mold.
We’ve partnered with The Gist to create this exclusive scholarship. By applying, you’ll automatically be subscribed to The GIST. As a subscriber, you'll get "the gist" of what's going on in the sports world in less than 5 minutes every Monday, Thursday and Sunday morning.
As one of the many no-essay scholarship opportunities on Bold.org, the scholarship will be awarded to applicants who get the most out of The GIST. You will be a strong applicant if you:
While the scholarship will be awarded on August 1st, 2022, the scholarship will have rolling monthly application deadlines. Students applying within earlier application windows will have a greater chance of winning the award.
The application deadline is Sep 30, 2021. Winners will be announced on Aug 15, 2022.
The scholarship award is $1,000. It will be awarded to 1 winner every year.
The winner will be publicly announced on Aug 15, 2022. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
We will send the award check to the financial aid office of the winner’s academic institution or future academic institution in their name, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school’s requirements). If the student's academic institution does not have a financial aid office, the student will receive the funding directly.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to verify their academic enrollment status by providing a copy of their most recent transcript.
