My name is Amaya, and I am pursuing a career in cosmetology because it allows me to combine my passion for creativity with my desire to help others feel beautiful and confident. Growing up, my family faced many challenges, but we were always surrounded by strong women who showed me the importance of hard work and resilience. My great-grandmother, Beverly, was a barber and salon owner, and she became my biggest inspiration. Watching her build her own business and make people feel cared for through her work left a lasting impact on me. She wasn’t just styling hair—she was uplifting people, listening to their stories, and creating a safe space where everyone felt welcome. Beverly’s legacy planted the seed for my interest in cosmetology, but my personal journey made that seed grow. After losing both my great-grandmother and my brother, I struggled with depression and anxiety. During those difficult times, doing hair and makeup became more than a hobby—it was my therapy. Practicing different styles and learning new techniques gave me a sense of purpose and peace. That’s when I realized cosmetology wasn’t just something I enjoyed; it was my calling. I am fully committed to making cosmetology my full-time career. This is not just a job to me—it’s my future. I want to follow in my great-grandmother’s footsteps and eventually open my own salon. My dream is to create a business that not only offers excellent services but also serves as a community hub. I envision a salon where everyone feels seen and valued, no matter their background or circumstances. Giving back to my local community is a key part of my vision for success. I plan to offer free or discounted services to single mothers, survivors of domestic violence, and people who are struggling financially. Something as simple as a haircut or a fresh style can do wonders for a person’s confidence, especially when they’re going through tough times. I also want to host community events like back-to-school haircut days for kids and collaborate with local organizations to provide beauty services to those in need. Beyond providing services, I hope to mentor young people who are interested in cosmetology. I want to show them that this trade is not only a creative outlet but also a pathway to a successful and fulfilling career. By sharing my story and experiences, I hope to inspire the next generation of cosmetologists to use their skills to uplift others and give back to their communities. In the end, cosmetology is more than a career choice for me—it’s a way to honor my family’s legacy, heal through my passion, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Through my work, I aim to spread kindness, build confidence, and give back to the community that has shaped me. I need cosmetology in my life.
