Gilbert Tonkin Memorial Scholarship
Gilbert Tonkin was a beloved father and a heavy equipment mechanic from rural California who passed away on October 23, 2024.
Gilbert was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather who was always showing up for his loved ones and helping them in any way he could. He believed in believing in yourself, that you could achieve anything you put your mind to and encouraged those around him to do the same. Despite little education, and difficulty reading and writing, he managed to operate a successful business.
This scholarship aims to honor the memory of Gilbert Tonkin by supporting students from his local community who are preparing to embark on their lives.
Any high school senior in Humboldt County, California, may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they will be attending college or trade school after graduation.
