Physical Therapy

Physical therapists play a vital role in healthcare, diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal, neurological, pulmonary, and oncological disorders.

Many prospective physical therapy students find it difficult to access funding - more than 70% are concerned about loan repayment either due to inadequate income or financial security status. Additionally, representation in this field is lacking. Only 4% of physical therapy professionals are African-American. The Fairbairn FisioTherapy Fund seeks to empower diverse BIPOC students to enter a much-needed STEM field.

This scholarship is specifically for BIPOC undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in physical therapy. To apply, write about your journey, your future, and why paying it forward is important.

1) It's important to "pay it forward" because you never know how such a little act of kindness can impact someone's life. That act of kindness could be the make or break point for someone to take a more positive outlook of life, or just simply make their day. The best part of "paying it forward" it that it's free and everyone can do it. 2) I decided to become physical therapist in high school. I had a few conversations with my athletic trainers about why he decided to become an athletic trainer and his values resonated with mine. I knew I wanted to be able to help others when they're in pain and provide a plan for them to live pain free lifestyles. I believe everyone should be able to live pain free and I know I can help facilitate that for others through a career in Physical Therapy. 3) Five years from now I see myself with a master's in Kinesiology, a DPT in Physical Therapy, and deciding which pathway of Physical Therapy I want to go. I suspect I'll choose to work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, or be a traveling Physical Therapist.
