The Eric Johnston AthLEADers Leadership Scholarship honors the qualities Eric consistently represented: attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and effective communication. It recognizes a Liberty High School student-athlete who demonstrates that same strength of character both in and out of competition.
The ideal applicant has a genuine passion for sports, demonstrates leadership through their actions, and shows a commitment to serving others through meaningful community service. This scholarship is for a dependable, motivated, and respectful student who puts in the work to make a positive impact on those around them — understanding that success in sports is about more than performance, but about the type of person and leader you become along the way.
To apply, you must be a graduating senior at Liberty High School with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA, sports experience, and completed community service hours. You'll also need to submit two letters of recommendation from educators. Varsity letter recipients and students who have completed a leadership course such as Sports Leadership or Student Council are especially encouraged to apply.
Describe how sports and leadership have shaped the person you are today. In your response, explain how you demonstrate attention to detail, work ethic, and communication in your daily life. Share a specific example of how you have served others or positively impacted your school, team, or community, and explain how you plan to carry these qualities with you into your future. Your response should help the selection committee understand not only what you have accomplished, but who you are as a person and leader.
Please upload two letters of recommendation from educators.

The winner will be publicly announced on Apr 22, 2027. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution or future academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
