Ed and Aline Patane Kind, Compassion, Joy and Generosity Memorial Scholarship
Ed and Aline Patane were devoted parents who lived their lives with unwavering faith, and a deep commitment to family. They cherished their family as the cornerstone of their lives, fostering strong bonds through love, support, and shared moments of joy.
Ed and Aline exemplified kindness, generosity, and selflessness in all aspects of their lives. They showed their family the importance of living with faith, being kind, caring, compassionate, generous, helping their community and always finding joy in everything they did.
This scholarship honors the lives of Ed and Aline Patane by supporting students who consistently embody these same values; a life guided by faith, someone who leads with kindness, values family as a source of strength and inspiration, embraces life with both purpose and joy, someone who has a genuine spirit of caring, generosity, compassion and services others selflessly throughout their young lives.
Candidate Profile:
Any high school, undergraduate, or graduate student who is enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university in the U.S. may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they have at least a 3.0 GPA, live a faith-based life and have a strong record of volunteering experience. Demonstrated leadership and involvement in faith-based clubs or groups are favorable qualities.
To apply, submit an essay or video (or both). Video responses are strongly preferred and should tell us about your personal story, your faith journey, how you live out kindness, generosity, and devotion to family in your daily life, how this scholarship would support your goals, and how you find joy and have fun in life through friendships, hobbies, family activities, or other pursuits that bring you light and balance. If you submit an essay, respond to three or more of the prompts below in 500-800 words. If you submit a video, write “Submitted via a video link” in the essay box. Additionally, you can upload supporting documents such as certificates, letters, photos, or testimonials showcasing your service and values.
Please respond to three or more of the following prompts. You may answer each separately or weave them together into a single, well-organized essay. Be honest, thoughtful, and let your personality shine through.
1. Faith in Action: How has your faith influenced the person you are today? Share a time when your faith helped guide you through a difficult situation or inspired you to make a meaningful choice.
2. Servicing Others: Describe the ways you have served others through a strong record of volunteering across various organizations or community involvement. What motivated you to get involved, and what impact did it have on others and on you?
3. Kind, Caring, Generous, and Compassionate: Give specific examples of how you’ve consistently demonstrated kindness, caring, generosity, and compassion in your daily life at home, at school, or in your community.
4. Valuing Family: What does family (biological or chosen) mean to you? How has your family shaped who you are, and why is family important to you? Share specific examples of actions you have taken to support, honor, or strengthen your family, such as helping a family member, preserving family traditions, or fostering connection.
5. Finding Joy: Life is meant to be joyful as well as purposeful. What brings you joy? How do you have fun, laugh, or spend time doing things that lift your spirit, including activities with your family?
6. Your Future and the Scholarship’s Impact: What are your hopes for the future—educationally, spiritually, familial, and personally? How would receiving this scholarship help you live out the values of Ed and Aline Patane?
7. Optional Bonus Prompt: Write a letter to the children and family of Ed and Aline Patane sharing who you are and how you hope to carry forward the legacy of their parents who they miss every day.

The winner will be publicly announced on Jan 1, 2026. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
