I volunteer as a student coach for my university's football team at Western Carolina. Coming out of high school I thought that I knew a lot about football. When I got here I was shocked to realize that my knowledge of the game was nowhere close to how much knowledge the coaches here have. My experience here has been amazing, and it has had a great impact on me and my future. I have learned so much more about the game of football and what it takes to be a successful coach. Much of my experience here is hands-on learning, where I do what the coaches want and need me to do. In return, I get to sit in on their meetings, see how they plan things, see why they do things, and even more stuff. I have learned a lot through these things, and I get to use what I learn as well. I have built enough trust with the staff that I run the individualized periods with the Nickles position group. The coaches still plan out the drills that need to be run, but I am trusted to run these drills with the players, so I am getting a ton of hands-on learning. As well as I am also impacting others by developing their skills on the football field. In the future, I plan on taking my volunteer experience and everything I have learned at Western Carolina to a coaching position in my career field. My dream job has always been to become a coach and this experience has given me a ton to work with when I get into the field. When I become a coach I want to be successful, I want to make people champions on and off the field. On the field my goal is to win literal championships, to make people the best they can be in the four years they will be with me I will give my all to win as many trophies with them. As well as winning championships off the field, part of my program will be to make boys into better men and make the next 40 years of their lives better than the four that they spend with me. They will be taught valuable life lessons to make sure that we are putting great people back into our community. This is my life plan as a coach. To win every single opportunity I have, every game, every person, and every day. Building a great community through using sports is the way I hope to give back to the people who raised me in a great way. That is how I plan to use my volunteering to serve even more people when my volunteering experience is over.
