As college becomes increasingly expensive, more and more students are turning to loans in order to fund their degrees.

As a result, 45 million people in the US alone now owe more than $1.7 trillion in debt. These loans can be difficult to repay, leading many borrowers to spend decades paying off their loans. Due to loan payments, many borrowers are even unable to buy homes, save for retirement, or start businesses.

This scholarship aims to support students pursuing higher education so they can complete their degrees without the burden of student loans.

Any Christian student in Arkansas who’s involved in their community may apply for this scholarship.

To apply, tell us how you want to make the world a better place and how this scholarship would make your life better.

The best way to make a positive impact on the world is to show Jesus in my words and deeds. I have been called to show Christ in my words and actions to help restore the world that we live in. With that being said, I have focused my attention on the last seven years of my life spreading the love and message of Christ to everyone that I come into contact with. I have served as the junior intern at my home congregation, I have done volunteer work while I was a student at Harding University, and I have served at Camp Wyldewood for the past six summers. All of these accolades hold a significant place in my heart because I did them all in an environment that I love, and I got to serve the people that I am closest to! Serving others has always been how I show my love the most, and I am glad that I had the outlets listed above to be able to show the love of Christ and spread the love of the Lord. As of right now, I am preparing to begin law school at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas! This opportunity is the result of countless prayers from my family/friends and myself, and two years of hard work that has come together and created something special in my life. This moment in my life feels like I finally listened to God's plans for me because of the emotions I feel when I think about all of the obstacles that I have had to overcome in my life to get to this point. Every moment in my life has led me to this exact point, picking up on important skills along the way. The skills that I have picked up have equipped me to become a strong leader in any community that I am in. I plan to show Christ to my colleagues in both the JD program and in my future career. The career of an attorney, no matter what sector of law you choose to go into, will be service-oriented. I have always wanted to find a career path that allows me to help people professionally, and starting law school is the first step in me doing so. This scholarship that I am applying for would be put towards my expenses for a semester to help keep the costs low, which would allow me to focus more on school, and not have to worry about where money will come from. The University of Arkansas School of Law highly recommends that their first-year law students not have a part/full-time job their first year, which means that I will have to rely on my savings and whatever donations I can find. Receiving this scholarship will give me peace of mind and relieve me from the stress of not having any income for the first academic year of my law school journey. Not stressing about not having an income will allow me to focus more on my studies and use those resources to help make more connections! My name is Michael Hammonds, JD Candidate at the University of Arkansas School of Law, and I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this essay and consider me for this scholarship.
