Alma J. Grubbs was a hard-working mother who taught primary education in the Montgomery County School System in Georgia.

Alma was the oldest of four siblings and delayed her start in college to help support her family after her father passed away. Alma was an advocate for the power of education and never gave up on her dream of becoming a teacher. Like many African American women, Alma grew up poor but was able to achieve her dreams through determination.

This scholarship seeks to honor the memory of Alma J. Grubbs by supporting students who are pursuing careers in education or teaching.

Any African American high school senior, undergraduate or graduate who is interested in studying education or teaching may apply for this scholarship.

To apply, tell us why you’re passionate about education, how your teachers have impacted you, and how you plan to make a difference in the lives of your future students.
