William J. Thomas Scholarship Fund

Our family wants to create a scholarship to give $1,000 to one Junior or Senior in high school each year who is interested in pursuing a career in education. We would like to make this an annual scholarship if possible. They do not have to be an education major in college, but they do have to want to be an educator. The world needs new teachers who are truly passionate about education and changing the system. We are a family of educators but this scholarship is in honor of my dad, William John Thomas, who worked in business for 30 years before finally getting his college degree at age 47, just to be able to pursue a career in teaching. He was a triple major in Education, Special Education, and History. He taught at Progreso ISD as a Special Education teacher and Social Studies teacher for the middle school for 20 years. After he retired he still continued to volunteer his time to the school, the teachers, and students.
