Wanda G. Lear Memorial Scholarship Fund

Wanda G. Lear was born in a small town in Southeastern Kentucky. She earned her Associate’s degree in nursing while working full-time and parenting 2 small children. While working full time as a nurse in Lexington, Kentucky, she went back to school and earned her BSN and MSN from the University of Kentucky. After earning her MSN, she began teaching and found her true calling. Wanda loved learning and loved teaching others. She impacted countless lives with her compassion and wisdom as a nurse and as a nurse educator. She worked in many different settings and taught nursing in Kentucky before relocating to Florida in the late 1990's. She retired from Daytona State College as a Professor of Nursing.

Our mother, Wanda G. Lear, died unexpectedly and much, much too soon on February 5, 2024. It is our fervent desire that her legacy of love and learning live on through this memorial scholarship. In honor of our mother, we are awarding a $1000 scholarship to a first-year nursing student at an accredited college or university every August. During her years of teaching, Professor Lear inspired and paved the way for beginning nursing students to embark on an impactful and rewarding career. Now we, as her children, wish to continue that legacy in her memory. We thank you in advance for helping us honor our mother by contributing to the Wanda G. Lear Memorial Scholarship Fund.
