Our story

In Honor of Jennifer Kristen Brandt Born May 28, 1969 Died July 6, 2011. Taos Alum and Creative Writer.

Our goal

To establish the Velarde-Brandt Northern Mexico Cultural Preservation Scholarship to allow students from Northern New Mexico the unique opportunity to write a story that has been passed on through relatives and friends and represents a piece of the multicultural fabric of Northern New Mexico irrespective of background. The amount of this scholarship will supplement the high costs of post secondary education for students who likely come from socio-economic backgrounds that may prevent them from realizing their dreams. There are no restrictions to degree types and only a minimal high school cumulative GPA of 3.0. Finally, as a recognition that time is fleeting, part of the scholarship will be a wristwatch designed and assembled by a New Mexican Microbrand Company (Watchmaker Velarde LLC) and will be awarded, in addition to the scholarship, to be cherished for years as a remembrance of the student's academic excellence and appreciation of family history.
