Our goal

Picher, Oklahoma, once a thriving town, has been rendered uninhabitable due to severe environmental effects from decades of mining. Extreme levels of lead poisoning along with a catastrophic EF4 tornado have led to profound health issues, forced relocations, and the eventual closure of the town by the government. The Empowering Affected Students from the Tri-State Mining District Scholarship fund is dedicated to providing crucial support to students whose lives have been affected by man-made or natural disasters within OK, MO, or KS. Our mission is to ensure that these young individuals have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed, despite the formidable challenges they face. Having grown up in close proximity to Picher, I have witnessed the profound effects of this environmental crisis on families and communities. The stories of health struggles, displacement, and loss underscore the urgent need for targeted support. This fund aims to bridge the gap in resources and opportunities for these students, helping them overcome obstacles and achieve their educational goals.

Thank you for bringing awareness to one of the largest manmade environmental catastrophes that very few people know about.
