Our story
This scholarship is a memorial to honor the legacy of my deceased parents Joseph Etoundi Ngono and Marguerite Etoundi Ngono. My father was intelligent and adopted but did not have sufficient money to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. His academic performance gave him the opportunity to go to France, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business and finance. My father started our working as a doorman of a bank, progressed to eventually becoming a bank director and later chose to serve his community as a mayor. Having known pain and suffering, my father was a man who believed in resilience, morality and service. My father believed so strongly in education and health that he had started building a school in his homeland and owned a clinic, which he has healthcare professionals operate.
My mother loved children and saw them as treasures. She strongly believed in the power of education, worked as a high school teacher and volunteered for the Peace Corp. My mother believed in holistic care as teacher, and she translated that belief in her service to the community. She was a dynamic problem solver, advocate for harmony, and believed in loving God, loving oneself and loving one’s neighbor.
Our goal
Education can be a powerful tool that can transform one’s life and future.
Unfortunately, many people don’t have sufficient access to quality education, especially those without parents. Without financial resources, familial support, or guidance, it can be extremely difficult for orphaned children to pursue higher education.
This scholarship aims to support students in Maryland who have lost one or both parents so that they have the support necessary to continue their education.
Losing both parents before the age of 12 was the biggest tragedy of my life; however, with the help of several benevolent members of society I was able to progress and am now using my knowledge and skills to positively impact society as a psychiatric nurse. Education paved the way for me to succeed in life and being a past recipient of several scholarships allowed me the opportunity to focus and excel academically. I would like to personally contribute $1,000 in May and November of each year to give orphan students scholarships and would like to invite sponsors to join me in providing additional scholarships.
