Our story
Chelsea Watson is the proud only child of Louise Speller Cooper. She has been fighting student debt in memory of Louise since July 2021, supporting Black female students with the same educational drive as her mother. Attending college was a dream Louise had for herself, but it wasn't a simple option for a poor girl from the rural south who attended a single-room schoolhouse during her formative years. While Louise didn't fulfill this dream for herself, she encouraged her daughter to attend college, even though they knew nothing about what attending higher education looked like. Thankfully, they were able to learn together. Louise passed away in 2016 at the age of 63 but her passionate legacy of advocating for education lives on through this scholarship fund, which helps the next generation of African American women.
