Our story

Honoring Kaylee Xiong: A Scholarship in Her Memory As teachers, we aren’t supposed to have favorites—but if I’m being honest, Kaylee Xiong was one of mine. Kaylee was the kind of student who left a lasting impact. She spent more time at my desk than just about anyone, chatting about life, sharing funny stories, and showing off the latest adorable photos of her baby sister, Harperlynn. She was smart, driven, and competitive—but also knew exactly when to take it easy and enjoy the moment. But don’t be fooled—Kaylee set incredibly high standards for herself. She had straight A’s her entire school career, so when one teacher gave her a B+ in senior year, you would have thought it was a D the way she reacted. She was not happy about it and made sure everyone knew it. She then worked relentlessly to bring it up—because for Kaylee, anything less than an A simply wasn’t an option. Kaylee was a talented graphic designer, a natural leader, and, above all, an amazing person. She graduated from Valley High School in 2024, following in the footsteps of her older brother, Nicholas. Both pursued graphic design at Sacramento State University, where Kaylee had just started her first semester when her life was tragically cut short.

Our goal

To honor her passion for design and the incredible person she was, we are establishing the Kaylee Xiong Memorial Scholarship. All donations raised here will be used to fund the scholarship, which we plan to award yearly for years to come. You can check out the scholarship here: https://bold.org/scholarships/kaylee-xiong-memorial-scholarship/ This scholarship will be awarded annually to a Valley High School senior who has completed the Graphic Design Pathway with A’s and B’s. To make this possible, we are launching a fundraising campaign, with Kaylee’s parents, Johnny Vang and Neng Yang, generously matching the first $1,000 raised. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help create opportunities for students who, like Kaylee, dream big and love deeply. Kaylee made the world a brighter place. Let’s honor her by helping others do the same. *To submit an employer match through Benevity, please use this link: https://causes.benevity.org/projects/647673 or search "The Kaylee Xiong Memorial Scholarship Fund". brandy has told me about this terrible loss and how kaylee really loved design. I think it's a lovely tribute and way to help spread her love to other students.
