The Gwendolyn M. Sanders Scholarship Fund

The Gwendolyn M Sanders Educational Scholarship Foundation which was created in loving memory of my mother. She was a beloved wife, mother, and friend who left an indelible impact on everyone she met. Through her nurturing spirit, she created an atmosphere of love, discipline, faith, and service to others—values that continue to inspire all who knew her. My mother had a 34-year career with AT&T, but her dream was always to become a nurse. While raising her family and working full-time, she attended North Carolina A&T State University to pursue a bachelors degree in nursing. She was proud to be an Aggie and enjoyed the academic rigor of attending a Historically Black College and University, earning honors and ninety credit hours toward her degree. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond her control, including a company relocation and later, her role as a full-time caregiver for my father until his passing in 2019, my mother was unable to complete her nursing degree. However, her dream of becoming a nurse remained a cherished part of her legacy. In honor of her memory and to carry on her commitment to education and service, I am pleased to announce this scholarship, which supports students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. It is my hope that this scholarship will help others fulfill their dreams, just as my mother so ardently hoped to do herself.
