Our story

George F. Kroeger, Jr. passed away just shy of his 19th birthday of April 20, 2022. George had struggled with depression and was very open about his journey with friends and family. His prescriptions to help him sleep often fell short and he was given something that brought his life to abrupt end. He had a passion for medicine, specifically, neuroscience and toxicology. In his college essays, he discussed his dream to one day find better cures for mental illness through medicine knowing all too well himself the voids in mental health treatments. He was about to embark on a journey to Tanzania for the summer to shadow medical professionals and was enrolled at Southern Methodist University where he planned to major in Biology with a minor in Health Sciences or Neuroscience.

Our goal

The GFK Jr. Medical Memorial Scholarship Fund is a legacy of George F. Kroeger, Jr. who sadly passed away just shy of his 19th birthday and right before he was about to embark on a college career studying medicine to help those with mental illness. This scholarship fund is for students who are interested in the field of medicine, neuroscience, or toxicology as it relates to mental health and/or addiction.
